2014 SJR Summer Series

Many of you are still not familiar with our new site.

It's huge.

It's fast.

It ain't no parking lot autox.

It's the most fun you'll ever have autocrossing.

Here's the site:
Bader Field, Atlantic City, NJ.
http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=102922&d=1311431356

We use both runways and taxiways. The paddock area is so large that sometimes we also use a portion of it for the course, with plenty of room to spare for parking.

The size of the course is dictated by the number of entrants we get. There's no reason why we can't have a 2 minute course if we know ahead of time that we will have an appropriate amount of drivers to work the course in their off heats. That's why it is so important to pre-register for the event, so the course designers can draw up a design ahead of time. Pre-registering also helps the staff get the event started more quickly, which equates to more runs. At SJR, the organizers aim to get in 6+ runs each event.

You do not have to pay when you pre-register for SJR AutoX events, but the option to pay online is available to you. If you aren't able to make it the day of the event, you'll be taken out of the system with just a couple quick clicks. The quicker everyone is registered and placed where they need to be, the sooner we can race!

Cash will be taken at the event for those who did not pay online. The cost is $35 for SCCA members and $50 for non-members. Non-members will receive a weekend membership good for a $15 discount on a SCCA Membership, which comes with some nice gearhead perks.

Most of the autocrossers hang out in the SJ SCCA Autocross group on facebook, so join up there if you have any questions. otherwise we'll be on here sporadically.

It is far for some, but cars with high hp/lb ratios do well here with the relative openess of the course and the crazy amount of grip.

Just saying.

I use to auto-x when it was in Millville. Anything overly deffrent compared to when it was in Millville? Also my car runs in the ESP class, is there enough people that run in ESP? I only ask because I remember ESP was usually a weak turn out...

JB'sLGT
10-11-2011, 03:27 PM
Lol yes it's a lot different than the paddock at NJMP. The new site (Bader Field) is massive. Some previous course layouts at BF have required gear changes up to third.

So far registered in ESP is me and a Talon. For the life of me, I can't understand why we don't get more ESP cars. You're talking most WRXs, Mustang GTs, V8 Firebirds and Camaros, etc. Even if class turnout is weak, you can always compare your results to everyone via PAX. A high PAX finish is way more impressive than a class win.

This year, we started late in the season, well after guys started acquiring points in other regions. Next year we hope to have much larger turnouts. This site really is THAT good.

10-12-2011, 08:40 AM
Oh okay sweet. I've auto-crossed 3 times total. I auto-crossed once in a tiny parking lot some where that was run by the south jersey region, and the other 2 times at NJMP. They both had pretty tight course set ups. I'll be at the auto-cross November 13th, gotta get the car prepared and all ready. I'll be running in ESP number 47 ;) lol can't wait!

Awesome course, nothing like topping out 3rd on an auto-x course, that was worth the 2 1/2 hr drive when you get 8 runs! For philly folks imagine 3 warminsters and then add a parallel taxiway and then take 50 years off the age of the surface.

I'm trying to make the 13th. Probably will be my last autox of the year. Hopefully we get a large enough turnout to use more the of site for course. It's not often an autox course is limited by the number of workers available to shag cones instead of the size of the site. Plenty of real estate to work with

JB'sLGT
10-22-2011, 11:22 AM
That's what I'm saying! I know there's plenty of Philly regulars that haven't ventured down to the new site yet.

I'd love to do another 90 second course. If we get 60 - 70 entrants, I'm sure we could make that happen and maintain the usual 8 runs. We were spread thin, but the 90+ second course we did with only 43 entrants.

Wow really?

Its just alot more gravel then I'm used to. I run in philly SCCA.

My friends evo with the hoosiers looked like a ice cream scoop covered in sprinkles after every run lol

I think the gravel sticking to the tires was from rolling around paddock. Happens at most any autocross site. Grip on course wasn't bad. (I ran all season in philly too)

Despite the 2.5 hour trek to the site, I will be attending whatever events don't conflict with Philly or Susquehanna regions next year. That was so much fun.

Seriously:
-On the way there I hit debris and destroyed a tire.
-Only got one course walk in, which is rough when the course is literally a mile long.
-Paid a ton of tolls. (shoulda done my homework on that one, they really nail you for even the tiniest trailer)
-Due to the blowout I had to run on the R-comps instead of Star Specs which was less than ideal considering how cold it turned out to be.
-To cap it all off I enjoyed a slow, 3.5 hour drive home on my 22 year old spare tire with a bunch of philly traffic thrown in for good measure.

And it was still an AWESOME day.

You basically need yourself, a car, and the entry fee. Helmets are available at the site to borrow.

Your car will have to pass tech inspection which should be no problem if you've kept up with maintenance.

Here's the major things the tech inspector looks for. Your car must have a working seat belt, a good return spring on your throttle linkage, working brakes, a securely fastened battery, tight lug nuts, well-packed bearings, no excessive play in your suspension, and an interior free of loose articles. Street tires must have measurable tread depth and no cord showing. Any street car in reasonably good condition should pass this quick inspection without any trouble.

The organizers really tried hard to make SJR's schedule not conflict with the other local region's schedules in an effort to attract more entrants. So far there's no other conflicting dates with Philly and NNJR, although a few events still need to be scheduled and the April 8th event will be rescheduled b/c it's Easter.

It was tough to get a confirmed schedule with Atlantic City with all of the other events they're hosting at Bader this year.

No, helmets are good for only 10 years. You'd need at least a M2005, S2005, or SA2005. Open or closed face are both ok.

We do have loaner helmets at every event, free of charge of course.

Well hopefully you can return it or sell it. It's still a helmet and will protect your noggin, it just won't meet the current sanctioning requirements.

Saferacer.com has some inexpensive helmets. If you plan on ever doing any HPDEs you'll need a SA rated helmet. Different tracks have different rules about open and closed face, but either are good for autox.

Technically we're still awaiting the permits. So once we have that, it'll be up on axware.

Last year it took a very long time to get the final ok.

No. NJ law basically states that only 2 people may be in a car in a racing situation and one of those people must be an instructor.

I'm going to make a concious effort to get involved in this, but I'm just not confident in my current brake setup for the power my car makes, and these heavy 350z wheels are the suck for racing.

JB'sLGT
04-04-2013, 05:32 PM
I have no doubts whatsoever you'll be fine. You'll understand why when you do it. If anything just do a brake bleed and make sure your tires are in good condition.

Well this isn't technically a meet, it's an autocross. You could come and watch I suppose, but the idea is to race your car. This particular autocross is organized by the South Jersey Region of the SCCA. You can get more information or register to race through here: http://sjr-scca.org/solo.html

If you don't know what autocross is, see here: http://farnorthracing.com/autocross/what.html

Not at all. You should still have stock levels of reliability. I autoxed my LGT for 5 or 6 years and the car never broke.

That all depends, some of the classes are changing for next year anyway.

Are you looking to build a car for a class or class the car you have? This is a good time to think about classing too, so you have enough time to make any changes if you need to.

Need the year, make, model and complete mod list and I'll point you in the right direction.

Ok, so you'll probably want to go for the street class. Minimal mods are allowed, so keep that in mind if you want to stick to the class. Cat back exhaust, drop in filter (not CAI), struts/shocks, sway bars, and tires with a 140+ tread wear rating for 2014. That will change to 200+ for 2015. There are more allowed mods too, those are just the basics I can think of off the top of my head.
