Im wanting to build a nasty street car now and cannot decide which side to go on. Ive always been a chevy fan but also owned two mustang 5.0's and have nothing bad to say about each. Im stuck in the middle of a 69 nova ss or a mustang gt/lx/coupe 5.0. My problem is that mustangs are cookie cutters and everyone has them, all with the same mods, and are easy to find. The nova would be rare and hard to find but yet building a chevy motor is cheaper. Ive been going back and forth on this for a while and cant decide.

Nova. My dad had a '62 pro street nova and that thing was small, light, and fast as hell

I would choose the Nova. But rare, not by a long shot they made over 3 million.

Ya so they made over 3 million...where are they now? 90% are rusting away in some junkyard way beyond repair.

There are just as many novas at the track as mustangs

Out of those two I have to agree w everyone else, Nova for sure. But if there was an older Mustang I might say differently. Also, something I have noticed rare cars seem to depend on where one lives, like down south Nova and Chevelles seem to be abundant.

Why does it have to be a mustang? There's a ton of other fox body cars that wouldn't be a cookie cutter. I'm building an 88 cougar as we speak. Not too many you're ever gonna see, 90% of mustang **** works on it, but its still a little bit of a challenge. Build a fox. Mark 7, capri, fairmount, t-bird/cougar, etc. Different, but still the same.

I'm building an 3rd Gen though I've taken so long now I'm gonna change the engine setup even though it hasn't run yet lol. Though when I had it built you couldn't run that type of motor on pump gas an now you can so it's due for some new tech.

I say nova though.

Just about any car is a cookie cutter. They reason for it is because they can be made fast for cheap. No different then an STi, Evo, 240, Mustang ect.

Nova would have the cool factor but at what expense?

both obviously have their +'s for you so i would just keep both in mind and look around for a deal that jumps out between the two...

you could always swap an lsx into a fox body and have the mustang crowd hate you.

Mustang with a chevy engine is the best bet if you wanna go fast for cheap

Chevy powered mustang FTW.
Novas look amazing and i love them but, they are pricey like every other classic muscle car.

I was going to say that rare really isn't the case for them. They are around, and people just want stupid money anymore these days for Nova's, Chevelle's, etc.

older nova would be better for drag racing...lighter than the Mustang and just as cheap to build.

Found via Google on "How Stuff Works":

The 1967 Chevrolet
Chevy II Nova SS
Specifications
Wheelbase, inches: 110.0
Weight, lbs: 2,690
Number built: 10,000
Base price: $2,683

Build a Chevy II... shouldn't be a question.

Mustang hands down over a 69 nova why would you even want that. The earlier novas are pretty sexy though.
