I'm looking to maybe buy one for a daily driver to keep miles off my Evo and to get better fuel economy over the coming years as gas continues its upwards trend. Just wondering about reliability, real world gas mileage and how you like owning/driving it.

I don't care about power/mods and I know that the ones to buy are the 05-06 models.

Thanks,
Dave

I would prefer a car that doesn't take premium for my daily, however, is not horrible for the highway, but gas prices are still high.... I drive an 04 on a regular basis and there is not really much i like about them. The interiors are mediocre, most burn oil, most have 3rd gear tranny issues with popping out not going into gear (Might be fixed issue with the 05-06?)

Reliability never really had an issue (130xxxx) other than basic maintenance, but the car is stock and not beat on

Bottom line i guess if it comes down to finding a decent one at a decent price then so be it...but there are many better options out there IMO

maybe im just getting sick of hondas?

Also the 04 is for sale ;)

^Ouch, that's not good. Definitely the kind of info I wanted, thank you.

Premium is an issue, but with the rated mpg, I'd get over a good two weeks out of a tank vs. the 6 days I get now with the Evo.

may i ask why the sole choice of an rsx-s?, there are many other cars in those prices ranges that might be more suitable for daily, hell even in the honda/acura lineup such as a tsx, etc..

always liked em, haha. that's about it. would like a smaller car than a sedan like the tsx.

But the TSX shares a chassis with the 4 door civic much like the RSX is similar to the civic coupe

Really? That's pretty cool, I didn't know that. The tsx is a nice car, don't get me wrong. Its just that the evo is bigger than it should be and I really would like something smaller for driving in the city daily, etc.

Type - S owner here.

I've owned my 2006 NHBP type-s since 2008 and put about 40k on it so far. I have nothing but good things to say about reliability. Nothing but standard maintenance items in the last 3 years now.

I average about 28 mpg with a lead foot... I'll update this thread whenever I get a real good estimate of highway mileage. I don't typically do highways all that often to know... That 28 mpg is with full bolt ones and a tune as well. I remember getting over 30 easily when It was stock.

I wouldn't really consider the interior "mediocre". It actually uses pretty high quality materials throughout it seems. Definitely better than most imports in its price range.

I also think it's ignorant to say "most rsx's burn oil and have tranny issues." That's just not correct at all. Yes some of them have some 2nd gear grind issues but it is far from "most". One of the only bad things I have to say is that I paid WAY to much for this car... It is holding it's value though for the most part.

I would say 05-06 is the way to go if you don't mind paying more. IMO they look much better but there isn't a huge difference between the two. They have 10 more hp at the crank (bigger exhaust, type r cams and throttle etc), a 4.7 FD, slightly lower and more aggressive suspension. Some interior differences like white gauges and metal accents along with better seats. They also have nicer wheels that are an inch bigger with wider tires.

Overall they are nice cars that are really good looking and are a ton of fun to drive. Just be prepared to shift a lot because of the 4.7FD lol. You will also sit at high rpm's on the highway in 6th gear... For reference @ 80mph I'm at about 4k rpms lol. Somehow still manage great mileage.

Any other questions just let me know. I seem to be of only a few rsx owners on this site lol.

1. was the rsx-s your nicest car, because the interior compared to most cars i would say is mediocre ha, especially considering the price of these cars new

2. Its a vtec motor which most due burn oil? and its a K-series....The TRANNY IS CRAP sorry :/ (not really ignorant, its the truth)

05-06 have shorter gears, better acceleration, etc

3. 05-06 would be the way to go, truth

I guess i dont own an rsx? or know a bunch of people with the same issues...

Dont listen to me Dave haha (although throughout my years ive owned a handful of cars to compare this too, as well as daily a type-s on a regular basis between my hatch, and my rx-8 gt)

get on rsxclub and do some research which im sure you will do more if the time comes

Thank you guys, seriously the reason I went here first is because I knew if I went on an RSX site I'd get stories of frolicking leprechauns and rainbows blown up my ass about how great the car is. I want the unbiased truth since it's my money here.

That gearing sounds just like my Evo. Evo sits at 4k rpms right around 85mph in 5th (no 6th here). Yet the best I can pull is roughly 24-25mpg when measured at the pump, so 28-30 would be very nice although roughly a 60 mile per tank difference. Hmm.

lol never said you didn't own one

Yes the K-series tranny is the weakest aspect of the car, but to say because you and a few of your buddies had tranny issues, means "most" of all rsx's have the issue is just ignorant... Small sample size amirite?

As far as "most" (there you go with that word again lol) cars interior being better... I don't think so... It has a nice mix of different materials compared to most cars just having hard plastic everywhere. (Leather steering wheels and seats, leather inserts on the doors, rubberish material composing the dash etc) It's interior isn't high end at all, but I think saying it's mediocre isn't giving it any credit.

I believe they were 24k brand new, I can't really say I can think of any luxury cars that had much nicer interiors in that price range...

Oh and this is my 3rd car and yes the nicest I've owned. I have a lot of points of reference though being a car enthusiast, in and out of different cars all day, along with the local cars shows and meets etc.

I dont' want you to misinterpret what I'm saying here lol. It's not an extremely nice interior, I just think mediocre is underrating a bit.

For what its worth, I like the Type-S interior more than what comes in the Evo these days. Of course, we get Recaros and a BAMF stereo so it balances out :)

haha yea you would think clubrsx would be filled with people blowing smoke and glitter up your ass but believe me, there are more people that hate the rsx than you may think lol.

Tons of pretentious asses on there that give people so much crap for enjoying their cars.... its ridiculous lol.

The car has it's shortcomings for sure, but I'm completely happy with it. Especially now that I'm CAI/E/RH/RBC and K-pro Magnesium tuned

The tranny is by far the weakest part of the car but for someone like you who won't try to flatshift around every bend like some ***** ricer it will be just fine.

It pisses me off that the US didn't get the type R

250 lbs lighter, recaros, push button start, aluminum pedals, brembo brakes, HIDS, 220hp with an LSD lol.

No no i get what you're saying, and yes it does sound like im cutting the car up a lot but he is looking to invest some dough into a daily which i think there are far more better comfortable options out there in that price range. So of course im going to point out all the bads first, since that is what he wanted to hear....

As far as the tranny issues look at all the k-series models weather it be the civic, or the rsx they have their issues (national sample size) ha Its very notchy from day 1

Reliability like i said 130xxx strong with standard maintenance, As far as the interior i think it scratches to easy, and the leather used is on the "Cheaper" end quality wise. my 04 the seats are pretty hard too and not the most comofortable (long drives kill my back with little lumber support) idk how the 05-06 are?

Just seems to be lacking the little comforts in the interior is all i was saying such as having leather seats, but really not heated? (might have changed in later models, hell my 04 doesnt even tell me the temp outside (this is were i come off saying mediocre)

Especially coming from sitting inside my RX-8 Grand Touring edition its just blahh to me

I totally agree with your type R comment, that would make a overall nice car

unless youd like something decently quick look into a 5 spd base model
they arent nearly as fast but they have economy vtec and takes 87

if your looking for something fun, more room, and less than half the price.......pickup a 02-05 civic si........takes regular, better gas mileage, cheaper ins and can be had mint/stock/low mileage ALL DAY for 7-8k........i've owned countless hondas, including a 02 si and a 04 type s.........yes k trans sucks IF you race/beat it, if driving normal DD status they are great.

I just got my 06 type s in jan and so far i love it. No trans issues at all. Get about 27mpg driving fast on a daily basis and havent lost a drop of oil. Its a great choice for a daily. I threw on a i/e and a drop so far and love the way it handles and drives. Oh the stock sound system is decent too if you rewire the sub to be contolled by an aftermarket hu.

werd.

Welcome to owning an rsx. Make sure you join clubrsx and do tons of searching, people hate answering the same noob questions over and over on there lol.

To whoever mentioned a base rsx, good idea. If you really don't care about the speed aspect of a type-S the base would be perfect. Takes 87, slightly better gas mileage etc. Still looks damn good imo. You could always put on the type s wheels on the cheap.

People ragging on the RSX interior must be used to $60k+ euro luxury interiors. For a sub $30k MSRP it's gotta be best in class. Blows the STI/WRX/EVO out of the water. Thick leather seats, red gauges/console, driver oriented RADIO/HVAC (no cars have these anymore), decent stock sound system.

The only negative that I can think of is that they only offered black interior on a few colors, the rest got the taupe interior which is much less sporty feeling in my opinion.
