Ive pretty much narrowed it down to either the Nikon L110 or L120. Not that much of a difference between the 2 besides prices/zooms etc. Reason I want to settle for one of these two is mainly funds. If money was right id be picking up a DSLR in a heartbeat but one of these will have to do for now.

I'm new to photography (have always been interested just never pursued it) so would one of the 2 Nikons listed above be good for me? I'm no professional, just want a decent camera for basic use.

And one more totally random beginner question. What does it take to take pictures that can focus on a certain object leaving the background a blur? Do only SLR cameras do that or is it a certain aperture level or something?

Sorry for such noob questions but i'd appreciate any help  Thanks

your aperature mainly controls your depth of field (blurred background). You don't need a DSLR to get that effect, any camera will do it. but to get it as sharp as pro's it takes some good glass and a decent amount of $$...

i have experience with both at work. the 120 is technically a better camera, but mainly bells and whistles... I believe the 110 is last years model though (could be incorrect)... it just hit discontinued status at work so check out some retail stores for clearance prices.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah I kinda just want to settle on this one for now then in the future possibly move onto a SLR if I decide to take photography to the next level or something. Since you have experience with both cameras, id like to know the difference between zoom levels etc between the two if you know? I know the L110 (Older model) has a 15x zoom, while the L120 has a 20x zoom. Is it that big of a difference?
