Thats a very realistic goal, espically with a 24v motor.
The biggest problem your friend is going to have is getting all those pissed off horses to the ground.
A must on that list needs to be a built tranny, the stock ones tend to go around 300-350wtq.

I guess money = HP.
How fast do you wanna go?
That is a ton of money for 500whp, and I will even guess that won't be had on pump gas alone, maybe close though. Sure doesn't look like he skimps anywhere and has good (expensive) tastes. Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.
Once I get my pistons this month, I will try to break 450awhp on 93oct+meth. I probably have $15K in mods, but all the labor is mine.

Thats alot of money for 500hp. Shoulda built a supercharged 350 chevy for under 10K. I wish him luck with his project.

Just as long as it runs better than the turbo VR6 in my garage right now. But its a show car, it isn't supposed to go fast.

I thought cuhna's crew went 9's last year in the street driven jetta. I was trying to find the post on honda-tech. But I am almost positive they went 9's

This is fwd and it has to be considered street driven. The guy who owns that one drives it to the track.

Wow, that's gonna be a monster, 500+ should be very attainable. Cool. Expensive, but cool. That's how VW's are. I'd love to see pictures of the whole car.

I somewhat agree. One of my good friends just sent his VR-t back there for the third time (for more power, it hasn't broken). Each time it gets faster and faster. Schimmel knows his stuff, his shop is littered with VR-t's and swaps into MKii's. </off topic>

That jetta is FWD and was racing in a street class. SFWD which has to pass state inspection and must have all working items. And I thought schimmel went nines in his jetta back in the day.

That GTI pictured belongs to Steve O. from NJ, its street driven and he races it very often. The black jetta belong(ed) to Brian K. who is from NJ also, Steve & Brian are in the same circle of friends. Brians Jetta held the quickest & fastest title for a while with a 9.69 at 146 (not positive on the MPH as its been a while).
That Jetta was an all out race car but I think he still drove it on the streets. Its since been retired from duty do to lack of support in the VW aftermarket and from what I've heard he transfered his setup to a street car that is running low low 11s at 134 MPH on 26" street tires.
The current record is held my C&M Performance out of NY... forget what the actual number they ran was, but don't count Brian or his circle of friends out yet. From what I understand this year he will be racing in the 6cly turbo street class with some new ****... should be interesting.

600 is still doable but like I said putting it to the ground is a whole other story. The 24v engine that your friend is using has like 200whp stock, but the blocks are very stout from the factory. With just a headspacer and headstuds 500hp is not a problem on pump gas.

Yeah I was talking about the C&M performance jetta. Last year at the e-town race I looked at it and it appeared to be a street car not an all out race car.

C&M has two fast VW's, ones an A3 Jetta and the other is a GTI. The latter is an all out race car with one peice front end and custom tube frame. THe jetta is their street car...
