Ya, Its going to be a couple of weeks till I can get it re tuned as I f'd something up in the car trans. Theres no reverse an its locked in gear so I bought a turbo mr2 for the trans it has in it. Going to pick it up sunday an rip the trans out an see what I need to do to make it work in my car. I think I have to change the axles, hubs, an make 2 new sprockets for the input shaft.
But on a good note I got my new fuel pump, waste gate, boost controler an some other stuff.

Turbo donor car...

couple of questions:

1. do you know how much the car currently weighs?

and more importantly.

2. what in the world made you think of/do this kind of project?! its AMAZING

Cool as for bling factor. I just dont see the reasoning to go through putting time, money, effort and fabrication into something that isnt starting you off with much power. Id like to see final numbers once the boost is cranked up. Personally, I woulda put the money you spent on the busa, fab, time or labor into a 3sgte and been happy.

Car sounds so amazing tho...

No clue on the weight as of now. The car is only about half way done. I'm going to be putting carbon fiber doors on it an removing allot of un necessary other stuff to lighten it up.

As for why I did it, I relay don't have an answer for that, I just felt like doing something different than everyone els.

From what I was told once you get over the 260hp mark on a turbo hayabusa your going to need the lock up clutch.

I got the mr2 trans fixed.. turned out to be a broken bolt in the #3 shift fork. so the trans is back in the car for now and ill put the turbo trans in later.

The motorcycle output is hooked to the car trans input shaft with two roller chains. You just pick a gear in the car trans an use the bike trans for shifting. think of the car trans like a quick change rear end with reverse.

isnt 142 at the wheel mad weak for a turbo busa? i thought they made that stock.

The motor has two wheels and two transmissions. Not a chain and a bike tire... Theres obviously drivetrain loss.

You planning on gutting what little interior it has to keep the weight down?

It'll be nice having a car that revs to 13k+

true, didn't think of that.

still, 140 whp is pretty pathetic for a busa motor on boost even with added drivetrain loss.

it has to be painfully slow in an mr2 under like 8k rpm.

That is awesome! I'm more into the gearing of this thing. Can you go through 30 gears while driving, or is it select a gear on the car trans, and thats it until stopped again? This thing would do like 300mph if what I'm thinking is correct, 5th on the car trans, and 6th on the motor side. I wish I knew the actual gearing of this, to figure out the final ratio. Same goes the other way though, you have like 10 granny gears. lol

denmah
03-19-2011, 07:48 PM
it did like 130mph in 5th on the car and 6th on the bike, you have to understand bikes dont have overdrive, 6th on a motorcycle is usually 1.04

That's not too shabby. You're at about stock 2nd gen 3sgte numbers... But with a lot more revs lol. Plus stock boost on a 3s is 8lbs in "low boost mode". Very cool. Does the setup have more room to go for power?

The busa motor can make allot more power if I want to dump tons of money into it (which I do not at this time) I'm very happy with the results an power I have at this time. I'm going to run it the way it is an when the motor finally blows I'll rebuild it for more power.

so is there like a special way to shift this?like do you have to shift the bike then car trans separately.

yeah, the bike trans has an electronic shifter, and the mr2 trans has the regular shifter,

the bike trans is shifted off the cruise control switches in the car.

so you pick a gear in the car trans, and put the bike in 1st gear, and you can roll through the bike gears using the bump shift on the cruise control

its pretty neat, haha

denmah
05-11-2011, 09:51 AM
it has a surprising amount of tq with the car in 5th and the bike trans in 1st, its easy to get rolling on the dyno.

so it should be the same on the street.

ide like to see it tow a boat in low low gear. it creeps on the trailer pretty easily haha

haha while i am answering questions for bryan i know this one too

he needed reverse for the car, motorcycles do not have reverse.

they sell transfer cases that work for sand rails and things of the sort, they are CNC and like 3000 dollars for the cheapest one, he figured what the hell why not just feed the bike output into the car input...

would having all of those gears give you some insane top speed?

ide like to bump the redline on this thing and set it to ignition hard cut, thing is still climbing powerwise

At 10 grand, I'm sure you got a little more, maybe 12K? I think the 'busa red lines at like 11.5K doesn't it?

Cool as for bling factor. I just dont see the reasoning to go through putting time, money, effort and fabrication into something that isnt starting you off with much power. Id like to see final numbers once the boost is cranked up. Personally, I woulda put the money you spent on the busa, fab, time or labor into a 3sgte and been happy.

Car sounds so amazing tho...

i was kind of wondering the same thing, amazing build non the less, but you just went from a 2.0 to a 1.0.

The motor has two wheels and two transmissions. Not a chain and a bike tire... Theres obviously drivetrain loss.

exactly, not to mention car rims and tires weigh a lot more than a bike rim.

yeah, the bike trans has an electronic shifter, and the mr2 trans has the regular shifter,

the bike trans is shifted off the cruise control switches in the car.

so you pick a gear in the car trans, and put the bike in 1st gear, and you can roll through the bike gears using the bump shift on the cruise control

its pretty neat, haha

that is really neat!
good luck with the build!
