View Full Version : Transformation of a daily driver... '06 WRX

I bought my car new in November 2005 and after joining the site and reading up for a while, I eventually put a turboback exhaust and COBB stage 2 flash on it early on. The car was driven ~100 miles per day for school and work. It stayed that way for years with suspension mods (coilovers, swaybars, endlinks) being the only addition.

Fast forward to this past summer. I was talking to some friends about the upcoming Wicked Big Meet and said that I've never gone to one. My girlfriend, being the awesome person that she is, decided that she would convince me to go and see what it was all about. So, since it was my first time ever going and with only 2 months before WBM... I started buying parts to transform the car into something I always wanted. Well, I got everything done in time for WBM... except for my tires. Due to a another user trying to scam me with damaged parts, I had to rush to get my Chargespeed carbon fiber spats painted and ended up installing them the morning of WBM... in the rain. :unamused:

It's nothing amazing, it doesn't have 1200 hp, and it's a work in progress... but it's about 95% done and I'm proud of what it is today. Not to mention that it has 115k miles on it and now makes about 400hp that I get to use on my 75 mile daily commute!

Brakes:
Hawk HPS pads
DBA 4000 slotted rotors
Stoptech steel brake lines
Motul brake fluid

Suspension:
Helix DNA coilovers for summer
Stock struts with Tein H-tech springs for winter
Front and rear Hotchkis Competition sway bars (25.6mm)
Front and rear Kartboy endlinks

Power & Drivetrain:
Exedy Stage 1 clutch
Exedy Stage 1 flywheel
Kartboy short shifter with Kartboy front bushings
VF39 turbo
STi top mount intercooler with Perrin y-pipe
Walbro fuel pump
Hallman manual boost controller
Gimmick Motorsports turbo inlet (biggest piece of s**t ever)
Agency Power short ram with K&N intake filter
Megan 3" downpipe
Borla XR-1 3" catback exhaust
Samco ancillary hoses

Interior:
Sony headunit with aux and usb ports
Pioneer door speakers
Factory subwoofer
Innovate wideband and boost guage in Autometer dual cluster bezel

Exterior:
STi v-limited replica front lip
Hella Supertones painted black
6000k HID bulbs & balasts (hi and low beam, white not blue)
STi sideskirts
Chargespeed Bottomline sideskirts
Chargespeed Bottomline spats
Mines replica rear trunk lip
Rainguards
Rota Gforce wheels in gold 18x9 +35 offset with custom centercaps
BFGoodrich Gforce KDWII in 245/35/18
5Zigen lug nuts in graphite
Stock wheels with snow tires

I did most of this in under 2 months. I had to get it out of my system once and for all and transform the car into something I'm happy with. I never had a "show" car or a nice car for that matter so I wanted to give it a shot without going overboard since it's still a daily driver and I can't afford to have it sit in the shop for weeks at a time.

How it looked before WBM... front lip and Grillcraft grill.

My awesome girlfriend and I drove 3 hours to buy and install Limited seats and doorcards! The seller didn't bother telling me he didn't have a garage or even a driveway so my girlfriend and I did the entire swap in the street... a busy street.

Why did you take coilovers off for springs?

Awesome turnover. But why get rid of the coilovers?

Edit: see someone else asked that too. Also why did you do the interior swap? I think it looked nicer before with the seats

Hey guys, the car was sold recently to some multi-millionaire. He's going to make it strictly a track car. I just picked up a 2008 Spec.B with 7,600 original miles. ;)

nice good transformation and love how clean the interior looks!

Thanks!

I was at WBM 2010 but just sold the WRX so I didn't make WBM this year.

Why did you take coilovers off for springs?

I daily drove 70 miles daily so coilovers got a bit annoying. Especially taking them off every winter, putting them back on every spring, etc. Not to mention the height adjustment collar seized up within 6 months. Not worth the headache.

Awesome turnover. But why get rid of the coilovers?

Ride comfort. No need to swap them out every season.

Edit: see someone else asked that too. Also why did you do the interior swap? I think it looked nicer before with the seats

The all leather interior looked MUCH better than cloth. Gave the car a whole different look and feel. Not to mention they were heated!

nice looks really clean, not over done, but deffinitly not stock, a sick DD

Thanks!

It was making 400 AWHP, on a VF39, with an STi TMIC & turbo back + short ram intake... using a Cobb stage 2 map..... ?

What injectors were in it? Fuel pump alone seems like you'd really be pushing the stockers.

Who tuned it...... ?

TheDon427

No, not whp... hp. I think it made something like 325whp... I forget. It was a while back. Walbro 255, stock 565 injectors. Orignally tuned by Junior with the stock turbo, then tuned by STi Mikey aka Phatbotti Tuning.

I have since sold it and now have a Spec.B.
