Do I'm thinking about picking up a 2010 GTI. Getting a pretty good deal on it. My question for everyone is the reliability. Yes, I've done research, and I tried searching on here and didn't come up with anything. Regardless, I wanted to grab some opinions from people with first hand experience. So let's hear them. Thanks!

its a year old so its got a warranty. id say youre pretty safe. all depends on how long you want to keep it.

Keep the legacy. Why are you considering this?

Yea I know AWD is great, and will be missed if I go through with this. However, regardless of what I get its time to move on from the lgt, just want something newer. I drive a decent amount, and the gti is a great mix of all aspects, its somewhat quick, super comfortable, has all the tech I could want. I miss having a hatchback and sunroof. Yes, I did take the new wrx for a test drive, and I definitely like it. However, it seems to sacrifice a decent amount while having an awesome powerplant. I need something more all around comfy to drive ya know. If money allows I'd love to buy an older wrx to build up and have some weekend fun with because I do know I will miss having AWD fun. So we'll see.

The new GTI's are great, they have a lot less issues than the older 06-08's. I don't know anyone personally has has modified one yet(at least not more the intake, exhuast, etc), so I don't know how reliable they'll be if you start trying to make big power, but in stock form they're a great daily driver. Only thing that sucks is that starting in '09 the warranty got cut back to 3 years/36,000 miles, but if it's CPO'd then that adds 2 years/24,000 miles to whatever ends first(3/36K). If you do get it remember that you get your 10k 20k & 30k maintenances free at any VW dealership.

Yea, I'm not going to try and get any huge power out of it, maybe just some bolt ones, apr flash and suspension. It's my daily driver, so reliability is KEY. Yea it is a CPO, but I thought regardless it was 3yr/36k bumper to bumper and 5yr/60k power train? I just want something super comfy, with lots of features (the one I'm looking at has the full touch screen radio, nav, hard drive built in to load MP3s, iPod hookup to control through the touchscreen, DVD player, etc.), and still fun to drive. It seems like the GTI packages all that together the best.

my buddy has an 06 GLI. has the GIAC flash and that's it. feels powerful enough but i'd pull on him in the legacy. The seats and interior are nicer. the GTI will take premium too. I know his GLI burns oil frequently. My coworker has a new 2.0 passat and it's constantly giving him random problems. CEL because of blowoff valve and temp sensor. random electrical stuff. what's your price range?

Eh up to about 23-24k i suppose on the price range.

Yeah powertrain is still 5 years/60,000 miles, but up through 08 bumper to bumper used to be 4 years/50,000 miles. Starting in '09 they came up with "carefree maintenance" and cut the bumper to bumper warranty to 3/36.

Yea I took a ms3 for a test drive. It was pretty nice. I wasn't a huge fan of the interior and everywhere says don't buy one if you live in an area where they salt the roads, they rust very quickly.

mk6 gtis handle great from what i've heard and read. vw's aren't hard to work on, they just require specialty tools that most weekend mechanics don't have. 2.0t is a great motor and responds well to mods (if you're into that). Only ever use quality synthetic oil at regular intervals, and you should be golden. Only major issues that usually come up are timing belt, water pump, and coil on plugs (not sure if the 2.0ts have this issue, but 1.8ts do)

i have yet to use one of these specialty tools and Ive taken just about everything on an off of the 1.8t besides the Head.
nice set of hitatchi bolt down packs cures that coil pack problem

Personally, I sold these cars for several months.
The Mk6 GTI is rock solid.
the 2.0t TSI is a fantastic engine, doesn't suffer from the oil burning issue of the previous FSI.
Also, the suspension is fantastic, and they handle great. As far as power, if you flash it it'll be plenty quick.
Plus, you cant even touch the interior quality with ANYTHING subaru has built, or will build in the near future.
If you want a genuinely well built car, go for it, the fit and finish is fantastic, the driveability is great, they do decent in the snow with the ESP system, i've tested it ;)
I'd say go for it and dont look back, but go for a candy white or a carbon grey.

Uh, not at all?
How does that suck? He will have the carefree, the new car warranty, then 2yr/24k AFTER that. find me a better CPO program

head bolts, axle bolts, axle nut, trans fluid drain, cam alignment, etc all use "specialty tools". I call them that because most weekend mechanics won't own the necessary tool
