Eclipse GSX 61

So my almost 4 year stint with my most prized possesion is about to come to an end next week. I found a buyer for 1997 Eclipse GSX in under two hours of posting it online and luckily it was a good friend of mine who lives 5 minutes down the road. I bought the car when I was 17 back in 2007 and now at 21 I realize the all the fun I've had in this car is not worth the constant upkeep. I've had a blast with this car over the years and will always love the car not only because it was my first car but because it taught me all about cars along the way. I'm still mechanically challenged but at one point I could barely change my oil or even a tire and now I'm comfortable doing almost anything but engine swaps and timing. Anything bolt on which before was pretty intimidating to me is now a breeze. The only reason I even considering selling is the mileage is up to 147,XXX and I got my full asking price which was pretty high and I would've been an idiot not to take it. The car started out as all stock except an Injen Intake and APEXi N1 exhaust when I bought it and since then I've built it up to an MHI BIG 16G, Evo 560, Walbro 255, SSAC Short Route FMIC, and a ton of other stuff. It's an awesome car but it just doesn't work out with my life anymore.
Sadly I know I'm going to get some sh*t for this but I'm buying my friends 2004 Dodge Neon SRT 4 ACR Edition in black. Now the reason I sold the Eclipse was because of the high mileage and the 2 doors which was becoming a hassle with hockey equipment, friends, etc etc. The SRT I'm getting for $1,000 less than the Eclipse and it is MINT. It is my good friend's car and he just lost his job so he was trying to just reach his payoff.

Anyone with an SRT 4 let me know of some good talkative forums because I've been checking a few out and the volume of posts isn't all that high.

I wasn't going for fast I was going for whatever had lower miles, 4 doors, still had a turbo, and was more reliable than my DSM.

I dunno man, a higher miles car with a whole bunch of new parts on it or a car thats newer that will start needing things replaced.... 4 doors is about the only things its got going for it. I hated the TQ steer when I drove an SRT-4.

My price limit was $7,500 and there are no nice WRX's for that price and I won't drive a bug eye I don't like them.

Yea but my car still has a 147,xxx mile stock bottom end, the alternator, the starter, and a bunch of other miscellanous stuff should be replaced and I've about met my end of caring anymore. I just want something newer.

A lower mile srt is probably just as reliable as your higher milage dsm, but good luck. I considered getting one before.

It's all good Josh, we all move on from things eventually. That's the way growing up works. Your GSX was always one of the nicer ones and you kept it up well, just keep doing that with the ACR and some day you'll find another car you can really enjoy.

Thanks Aaron. We need to get the Quakertown meets up and running again this summer I want to see that Civic again it is still to this date the fastest car I've ever been in.

That's typically the case but this one has been stock except for an exhaust its whole life. My friend bought the car new and has been the only owner and I know how he takes care of his car. The only problem he has ever had was the clutch went out recently but its new so its all good.

I know but I sold it to my friend for that reason that I'll still be in contact with it and maybe just maybe one day buy it back.

I thought about it but I'd rather not die and then have a total turd DD. I'd rather just have a somewhat nicer car.
Ah, we both sold out! Good luck with the Neon, Josh!
Thanks Taylor. It was just a no brainer for what I sold it for and what I am paying for the SRT. I'd be an idiot not to.

Yea I was never an SRT advocate and I still think they look weird in the front but I mean its more reliable than my car and is still turbo so I'm happy. Thanks Dan and good luck selling the MR2 if thats the route you are still going down.

Having owned man DSM's and also an 04 Srt4...I can say you're making a huge mistake. Of all the cars I've owned and miss my DSM's are at the top of the list. I do miss my Srt4 from time to time but then I remember what a pain in the f*cking ass it was. FWD sucked in any inclement weather...but I still drove it slammed through 3 winters on stock BFG's. Torque steer was a mother******. Blowing off IC pipes was a daily ritual even stock. Boost leaks came factory and finding/fixing all of them was a full time job. It's still a NEON no matter what its badges say. You get the same NEON cheesyball bag of d*cks interior, same NEON exterior styling with a hood scoop & bigger wing (WOO HOO). You get power front windows and manual rear windows :screwy:. About the only thing you have going for you is that it's an 04 (lsd trans) and that it's Black (best color ever!!!). Then again I'm a tad biased. So in summation...I miss the f*ck out of mine and wish I never had sold it.

A properly built SRT4 is not a bad car. Half the people who drove one, seen one, talked about one, dont like them..... Have no experience with building one or owning one. Ignorance prevails, Though. Everyone has their own taste. For anyone that doesn't want you to get the srt4, Maybe they would be so kind to fund the additional money to purchase a car they want you to get? That would be polite, To say the least... Mid 13's with under $20 into an srt4 is quicker then most people can make their cars on this site, For $ to $.. Then you have the 'srt4 owners' who run 15's at the track in fully built srt4's. It really depends on who owns the car, And how much they know about the car.
The dis-advantage IS the fwd in the srt4... They are terrible once even slightly modified. That is the reason I got rid of mine. I drove the car with m/t slicks on the car daily, But on street tires it would do 100mph roll-on burnouts, Which was NO fun, And not safe.
It's a hard decision which I personally like better. I like both, And sometimes also miss my srt4, Just not the major traction issues.

I was the same way I didn't want to sell my Tsi but I needed a better commuter friendly car.
I also was not a big fan of bug eyes but after riding in one (because my friend had one for a little while) and looking for one the body style grew on me. I found my wrx with 80k for 8k, the guy originally wanted 10k but needed cash so I offered and he took it.
I can't complain its been great to me so far, but I miss my Talon way too much.

Hey at least it should consistently run for you. We've both had that issue.

I'm missing it already by just looking at it and knowing I won't be able to cruise around in it this summer. I had so many good times with that car. It almost becomes your kid at some point.

Well I obviously can't now because I don't live in Perkasie currently but if you need a hand when I'm home sometime give me a holler.

Please don't do the typical SRT4 owner thing of constantly making your BOV make noise. If you do I'll kill you. <3

i feel like its impossible NOT to do the "typical SRT4 thing" with those cars. you sneeze outside the car with it idling and the BOV goes off lol
