Anyone with experience on backward entries- Is it easier to do an e-brake initiation or just power on and use the weight/momentum of the car? Looks like Tanner and the guy in the FC are e-braking it while in that documentary powering over seems to be the favored method. Squid looked like it was an accident lol.

It dosent matter how you get it past 90. Its about timing it right to scrub enough speed dragging the front wheels and end up in a spot where you can make the corner work when the front comes back to grip.
Thats what it looks like to me, but I never did it YET

i think drift squids entry was my favorite. going backwards the other way and then swinging it around for the turn

Lol, exactly the order I had it Sean. I did best for last ;)
Even if it was on accident, he pulled it off well in recovering! Great instincts!

They were all accidents, Tanners being the worst because he slowed down so much because he went off line. They are just all decent drivers and corrected there mistakes. Kawabata drives at extreme angles often though he is very good.

yea i remember a few trying to at fd florida, they kept losing so much speed, it looked dumb

Like these entries are cool like to goof off but on a serious note they arent something i would practice......Like if someone does it during a tandem i would think it prety lame......

ehh im mean you guys can like what you want but i just doing see the point of those entries at all....like its a cool trick but thats about it...i can do that same trick with the modified knuckles i use but never have use them unless it was only to save myself from spinning out. Not to mention it slows you down a **** ton which gives the follower a chance to adjust and pick a better line.........everytime someone does it it looks like that messed up and recovered. IDk maybe down the line i will see it different but as of right now i think that **** is weak tartar sauce....

i know your a pro and all but what if you have so much speed going into a tight corner that you can use the reverse entry functionally to slow you down in a much cooler way than extended handbraking:mrgreen:

Not really a tandem move.
More of a way to get an above average qualifying score because your angle is technically over 90*.

i admit high speed backward entries are cool if they dont scrub too much momentum

True skill is to be on point there for going over 90 is cool for messing out but not what should be done...

Yes its cool looking but even he is messing up in that video....
Kawabata's is the only one that is extreme thats is down right...just my 2 cents.... dont agree? come show me :)

buuuut.... Early Entry > Backwards Entry
A proper backwards entry is an early entry.
Usually they're initiated right around the same point, the backwards entry is often cooler because it's not some bro standing on the e-brake for 37 seconds while he loses 60 mph of speed.
IIRC, when Tanner Foust Nailed a Backwards Entry at Road Atlanta in 2010 it secured him the #1 qualifying position.
Video for Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1bIB5D3NB8
Notice how Tanner Enters the corner early as all hell, but then lets the car continue to rotate until the angle of the car matches the angle that he wants through the apex. From there it's just about getting back into the throttle and the steering at the right time.
Then again, not every car seems to be setup to do a backwards entry. Most cars that have the 'bobble' during the reverse portion often run out of angle and have to shallow out to keep from losing the line. Seems like you need 50*+ on an S-Chassis to do a proper backwards entry, which is a lot more then your standard knuckle setup.
Video for Reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOWHRTYjhyg
Notice how Conrad over rotated and looked like he was about to spin right after the entry. He comes in real early, but right between seconds 1 and 2 he shallows up a lot because he can't carry the angle through the corner. From there his angle looks like a text book chopped knuckle full-lock drift - not that it's not impressive, but there is still room to improve.
Just food for thought.

I think what he meant was an early entry without that backward crap is better.......

Yup, I still love a clean backwards entry but when someone pitches the car sideways 1/4 mile before a turn and holds it is when I have to change my pants
I want to see more 100+ mph 360 entries...
