so today i was sitting in school, finished with my midterm, bored out of my mind waiting for the bell to ring. i started pondering just what i would love to build if i had money to start a new project. now i love subaru's but i cant afford an sti, and im a big fan of 240's with an sr20 swap but its kind of a "already been done a million times" kind of thing. so i was thinking, how cool would it be if you swapped an ej207 in. now i have nowhere near the funds for a ej swap let alone the complications that swap would bring. id imagine you would pretty much need to swap in the sti's wire harness from head light to tail light for it to work which would need a donor car and the 240 would have to be heavily mod-ed for it to mount correctly (would it even fit in the engine bay?) regardless of the whether or not its possible ( since anythings possible if you have deep enough pockets.) but what would you think if you heard the subie rumble and looked over as a 240 went drifting by? if its been done before i stand corrected. anybody's thoughts on the idea?

1. Its not great
2. Y the chassis harness - ej207 isn't a can bus jawny
3. Standalone
4. Costs more than whoa
5. Wide as nuts for a s chassis bay
6.the "subie rumble" is from the unequal exhaust manifold lengths... its not a good thing.

Certainly anything is possible, but when the motor wont clear the frame rails, and you have to cut the front of the car off, relocate the frame rails out further, bring the front steering and suspension out 3/4 inchs on each side it makes it hard.... unless your going for this look here...
Then by all means go for it, but even the above average car enthusiast probably wouldn't.
As for the RB GC8.... I did the wiring on one back in 2006

which do you think would be easier to control? one with a predictable torque curve, or one that has no torque and only makes power above 6krpms?
obviously the shorter wheelbase makes it more challenging to control. But with a better driver im sure the civette would be fine.
OutToWinPAHC
01-27-2011, 02:24 PM
ehh hard to say torque out the gate is harder control, but one your going and you know the car it should not be an issue. The other side also has benefits as well, big power lower torque even at 500 WHP the torque may be what 375 on the F20C? That car and torque are not the best match for control but with practice it can be. It's hard to say really, it depends on the set up and driver. I think that driver was just having some fun and probably is not into drifting at all, how ever I have seen him launch well in that car and I have seen it around a higher speed road coarse and he did okay.

And while that may be true to some extent, there's plenty of bolt-ons for the RB26 and I'd bet it's a better motor for reliability and way smoother. And besides a DD 240sx v8 will be terrible on gas. Just sayin. Premium is 3.39 where I live. Seen it as high as 3.75. And I can't afford a second car...

Lsx motors get good gas mileage and you'd have to run the same gas in a rb, not to mention they make the car front heavy.

You're an idiot, 99 Camaro 6 speed is good for almost 30 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg (give or take 2) around town.
It would take at LEAST 2 X the $$$ to do a RB swap instead of an LS swap, and when you blow both up the LS costs nothing to replace. Not to mention parts availability...

You are wrong.... RB is a much easier swap, and RB motor sets cost a lot less. You can buy an LS1 for about 1200 and a T56 swap for about 1800 with swap parts, but then you need to do a ton more... From gauge signal converters, sway bar spacers, crossmember modification, oil pan, headers that clear, cooling upgrades, fuel system, plumbing drive line. It really nickels and dimes you. You can LS swap for about 6000-7000 but thats with a 100K motor and trans combo.
I got 3500 into my trans/clutch alone.... an RB is a much cheaper swap, and a lot easier to pull off.
I apparently am corrected, I can't imagine an RB swap has that many interchangeable bits with the SR or the KA, but if Nissan has the Lego thing going on then  .
I do think yours is a little on the high end of the swapped V8 spectrum, LS6 when an LS1or 2 could do. There are cheaper ways to do it...
That clutch thing sucks too, the buddy of mine that had the SS replaced his for like 1300 ish IIRC then he slipped in the ice and totaled it.
