View Full Version : Want Fun Daily suggestions PLEASE

So right now I am putting WAY to many miles onto my 15 year old Acura legend. I would like to garage it as much as possible. If I keep it on the road I'm guaranteeing 15,000 miles a year and at least $2-3k worth of maintenance a year.

So the though is to get a small sporty daily drive to go to work that would be reliable for the next couple years. and must be a manual

So far from what I have seen in order of what I am thinking or how I like them we have

Scion TC
Civic

and then it kinda stops

Are there any suggestions what what might be a fun daily driver that has some potential to mildly modified? Any problems with those 2 options I have picked?

Thanks

Actually, having recently driven one, Im going to suggest a Hyundai Tiberon GT 2.8L V6.

it was a fun car to drive and handled and accelerated alot better than I thought it would.

my first car was a 94 honda accord 5sp coupe it wasnt super fast or the best handling but i loved it. bone stock never had a problem its got 174xxx on it great car. imo my dd doesnt have to be fast just clean and reliable and most importantly manual lol. i can have fun in almost any car

What's your price range? What other requirements do you have such as number of seats/passengers, storage space, etc...?

there are so many options with the given parameters my friend... Just buy something with a small 4 banger and drive the balls off it.

Scion TC
Civic

Scion TC - Guys will pull up next to you thinking you are a chick.
Civic - It will be stolen. How quickly will depend on the year you pick.

Both wrong wheel drive.

I may be biased but get a Miata.
RWD.

unless:
You bring your own kayaking gear.
you like having more than one passenger.
"low" is the highest volume on your cellphone. You will not hear them in the car.

Cobalt SS/SC can be found arround $11. Easy mods, practicle, and easy to maintain. Def much better then a TC or Civic.

I'd stay away from Honda/Acura as I see there are 'my/friends honda/acura was stolen' threads popping up recently.

If I had 2 choose from ur top 2 pics I would recommend a 99-2000 civic si. Great, fun car and cheap to mod. If it weas me, I'd get a 240sx, weld the dif, coilovers, exhaust, rims and call it a day!

I've had my Scion tC for almost 5 years now. Bought it in August 2006 but it is a 2007 model, I put this car through HELL.

Coilovers, full interior change, Turbonetics turbo-kit, etc etc and I put it back to stock except for the HID's and the full led rear brake light and car is still a champ.

Currently around 85,*** miles and knock on wood its running good, handles decently for stock suspension, audio is great with an OEM pioneer headunit.

For a daily, its effective and comfy.

Miata, if ur man enough

^this

...on a side not you can prolly by 3 miatas with your price you could even get an nb and throw coils and wheels on it and still have cash in pocket. maybe even an s2k with your budget..

i had an NA chassis miata as a daily last winter and im not gonna lie, i miss the hell out of it

however if you always have a lot of friends in your car, or just have random junk you like to have with you in your car at all times, don't buy it obviously lol

but maita's are awesome and reliable as hell

i keep NOTHING in my car and my interior is cleaner then the day it rolled out off of the show room floor a miata is very doable i was also looking at some wrx but they are a little high so I would need to go older.

thanks for all those links too

I've seen S2000's wuth under 60,000 miles sell for your under 15K. Its a very fun car for the money. If you need to have 4 seats, a used RX-8 can be had for a similar price. If you want a lot of performance for the dollar, a used 2005-2007 Mustang GT can be found for $12-$15K if you search around. A WRX wagon could be a fun daily if you have to haul stuff and need all weather capability.

Have you considered a MINI? Definately fit into your budget, and they're a ton of fun to drive.

So just got back from car sense.

drove 2 sat in 5

Drove the TC Very impressed I was surprised at how light it felt even tho I was still going 5ph problems I am rather tall to try and fit into it but i do .. JUST

Drove an altima, I wasn't expecting much here just want to try something else. It had an ugly ass grill, was slow as balls, and felt slow too. I sat in a Civic, then got back out, that is all i needed to do. Sat in an 01 miata Great interior just fit again out of gas so i wasnt able to drive it. I will be headed back on monday to try it again. Sat in a mini too but nothing in my price range plus all autos.

Monday Im also gona try a wrx and another miata
