So after searching this forum I'm now thoroughly confused...

A couple threads here have officers stating that any aftermarket tint, on any window is illegal. Then in other threads we're told that we can tint the rear passenger windows and back window. Then in OTHER threads it's stated that there is a percentage that is legal to use on the front window.

Can anyone point me to the actual statute in the law? Based on the info given in this thread not even the PSP knows for certain what the laws are regarding tint.

I was pulled over this morning by a PSP trooper (completely unprofessional, btw, but I won't get into that here) for tinted windows. He said I had to completely remove the tint from my front driver's and passenger's windows and also from my rear windshield, but said I could keep it on the rear passenger's windows. I didn't think there was a law about tinting the rear windshield at all.

Can anyone please clarify? Not opinions or guesses please, I'm looking for actual citation of law. Thanks.

EDIT: Looks like I found the statute, and there is a fairly large mountain of evidence collected here: http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/why.html that says pulling someone over and ticketing them for tint at best has no merit in law and at worst constitutes an illegal detention. I might go to court over this just to get some clarification and test some legal theories.

Also, could someone answer my other thread in this forum? It's about street signs and traffic signals on private property.

75 Pa.C.S. 4524(e) sun screening and other materials prohibited

go to my sticky for title 75 and read up on it. it will answer all your questions about tint.

to sum it up if you don't want to read it... unless it came from the factory that way or you have some sort of medical abnorality(which is certified by a licensed physician) then putting window tint on your vehicle is NOT ALLOWED.
