Its been a ton of fun thusfar, plus the quad doors would be great for a DD.

Just picked up some mandrel bent piping and a vibrant muffler to make my axleback, and got the smoked corner and taillights on!

Always had a soft spot for LSj's they can be pretty quick. I wish they had spiced the interior up a bit more than just the recaros. Keep it clean you got a great color on your hands.

I have never really followed the aftermarket development of this car. Outside of the GM upgrades is there much out there?

I'm pretty sure there's plenty of aftermarket for the RL's. You can do a decent amount to the suspension and there's some smaller companies that made some frame braces as well as traction bars for the ions. It's an ecotec so anything you want to do internals wise can be done. I've contemplated getting one, but I think my next car will be awd since I drive a lot and in the snow a bunch.

Good pickup though, I'd love to get behind the wheel of on at some point.

Mechanically, its the same as a cobalt ss, so theres a decent amount of aftermarket support. The only thing thats different is the suspension, but as PunkboySL2 pointed out, theres plenty of that to be had as well. This summer i plan on getting a smaller pulley, larger injectors, a heat exchanger, and some delta grinds and be in the 260whp range. Should be fun haha

Yea, coming from a subaru i deff. miss the awd, but this thing is fast for what it is. Along with the above mods, i wanna do the GMPP clutch and possibly LSD, along with some bracing and trans mounts, so i dont think getting power to the ground will be a problem. I highly recommend at least test driving one, sitting in those Recaro's and listening to that s/c whine is an experience for sure lol

Haha thats funny, what are the chances lol.

Yea i do, right now the clutch slips sometimes so im not expecting great things, but im gonna hopefully go get a baseline run tonight at cecil. Then by this summer i should be in the low-ish 13's (hopefully lol) and maybe try to get some track days at NJMP

I love the color. With a set of tranny mounts and solid shifter bushings it will really incease the feel in the shifter as well as control wheel hop which is horrible in this platform.

Update, Just got some sprint lowering springs and installed some audi-style LED strips on the headlights (sounds ricey but trust me, looks amazing in person). Still have the axleback and roof vinyl to do!

Thanks man! I plan to get a B&M shifter from my friend when he trades in his Redline, and tranny mounts are deff. on the list as well as ive noticed how bad the wheel hop is in this thing. I took the car to the track on friday and realized my clutch is done, so ill be ordering the GMPP upgrade within the next few weeks. Ever heard of anyone running the OBX LSD in these transmissions? I'm tempted to do that this summer as well.

I wouldn't trust OBX/ebay for a part like that.

My buddy put one in his evo. We all told him not to but he was on a budget. Ran it at mid 400whp for only a tiny but and finally it just blew apart. Once i actually saw it you could see how bad it was made. Another legitimate company has to make a good LSD for your car thats reasonably price or maybe you can find one on the forums?

02kgeezy
03-07-2011, 03:08 PM
Yea seth, i was skeptical about it so idk if ill actually do it. I couldnt justify spending more that what the OBX costs however so i doubt theres other options, ill have to just keep checking the forums.

It's just one of those ebay ticking time bomb parts. Doesn't matter the power, one could last for a few thousand miles or could fail on the 1st drive on a 100whp civic.

I maybe wrong but I believe the cheapest lsd out there is quiafe and I can't remembe the lowest i've seen. Maybe around $900 or so.

Can't you get the gm lsd?

I took a test ride in an 04 ion RL and it seemed quick, but never really had a chance to drive it hard and open it up.

Nah, the OBX LSD is only $400 but im pretty skeptical about putting that in my transmission.

I believe GM uses the quiafe LSD, which is around $1100 new. I wouldn't spend that type of money for LSD, so ill probably just keep an eye out for a used one or just do rotated mounts. With the Stage 2, im honestly suprised how quick it is for a stock car. From a roll this thing pulls pretty damn hard

$900 is not a lot of money for a quality LSD, and its one of those things thats so often overlooked when modding a car, but isnt really appreciated until you do finally upgrade it. Im all about saving money wherever possible, but your car is pretty new- its not like there are Ion transmissions to be had for $250. If the dif you put in it causes the tranny to go.. that'd suck. If it were my car Id get a legit lsd and have it professionally installed.

If OBX cant make a header for an Integra that fits properly, I sure as hell dont trust them to make an LSD. I can think of better ways to light $400 on fire.

These F35 trannies are very easily found all over the place. Typically you can get a non-lsd one for $500 and a lsd trans for around $1000.

This one was mostly stock with a catback and a short shifter...prolly didn't help that the dealer went with me and I was on a busy highway.

Id spend the money elsewhere...a good set of tires goes a long way.

Like i said, im not going to drop $1000 on LSD so if thats my only real option ill just pass, was just wondering if anyone had known of someone who actually ran it.

Yea, ive actually seen the non-lsd ones for as low as $300 so i know that it could be replaced easily. Guess it doesnt make sense to spend $400 for lsd and then another $300-$500 if it blows lol.

Thats what im starting to think, a set of rotated mounts and nice pair of tires would probably be more than adequate.

It definitely does but realistically it depends on what your goals and wants for the car are. Obviously a legit LSD is a good bit of money, money that can be spent elsewhere & enjoyed way before the true need for a LSD comes into play. If your never really looking to push it past a fun street warrior then i don't see the point in the $$ & times invested into the LSD.
