I'd keep away from buying someone elses project deffintly when it comes to a 3rd Gen they hide rust pretty well let alone the things that need to be setup properly. I'm sure Hickrocket could tell you the same thing. Mine nothing but a empty frame with no front end on the car. Even the dash is out there so much extra junk in those cars its retarded. I pulled out 30-50+ pounds maybe more of hiddin electronics an A/C behind the dash that werent even hooked up anymore.

Good choice.

Here's mine. Most of the work on it came as is when it was bought. Didn't want to have to sink the money into it. When it was bought it was set up as street/strip. Now it's set up for strip but I want to put it back on the street but still use it mainly for drag racing. Just a little 383. Here's the ass end. Still has more in it with a little tweaking I'm sure. Just don't want to ad a rollbar.

It's hard calling them domestics.... to my anyhow. Example - Mexico for castings, timing chains France, gaskets from all over the world, ECM China, sensors all over the world. Granted they are an American based company, but its sad how little of it is here, but at the same time Ford is the greenest car company, and the sad part is of the big 5 GM, Ford, Mopar, Toyota, Honda 96% of the USDM Toyotas are made, and built here in the USA

I've had my Escort since 2001 when I purchased it stock. Where and when did you see said escort? It could've been me or maybe another guy from MD that had almost the same set-up. He's parted his car out over the past few years though.

I've obviously got love for both sides. In my experience subaru guys are for the most part just plain automobile enthusiasts, aren't necessarily "import guys" and generally have respect for just about anything that's fun to drive.

If I could figure out a way to shoehorn an LS motor into an STi and keep the AWD system intact it would be my ultimate daily driver.

I was into domestics and muscle cars long before I ever bought a subaru. You'll just never get the kind of off-idle, instant tire-frying torque from a small displacement turbo engine that you can from a domestic V8.

i'm not anti-imports..... i have tons of love for cars in general. around my area there's just a bunch of douche bags that just happen to own Subarus.... they think their sh!t don't stink and that Subarus are the absolute best vehicles in the world..... and they turn their noses up at everything else.

then i just laugh because i know my wagon would embarass them

but for the most part, there's a handful of Subaru owners that i'm friends with and they're really cool people. i just hate when people think that their cars are better than anything out there and they clearly aren't. but as well all know......... Haters Gonna Hate.

My views exactly...except towards SOME mustang owners. Now I know some people who drive mustangs that are very nice and some of them are on here but I find the other people think they're hot **** cuz the drive one. That's all I'm gonna say about that. I hope anyone here doesn't take that the wrong way because I wasn't talking about u.

That's another reason why I love being associated with Mopar enthusiasts because everyone is very nice and no one is a douchebag. And plus, all of our cars are different in some way and it's nice to hang with people who share the same interest in car

+1 on the mustang owners. A lot of them are kinda like the EVO drivers of the domestic world... punk kids that think their **** don't stink.

The mopar crowd is cool for the most part, but Viper owners are some of the most obnoxious douchbags I've ever met. My dad's actually a mopar guy at heart and is much of the reason I got into cars. His very first car in highschool was a Dodge Coronet R/T with a 440 six pack. :supz:

I never see any vipers anywhere. There probably like corvette guys, I'm sure they are similar. we are a tight knit community on our Mopar forums and It's nice. Like this forum, when we bring together all kinds of cars from different countries, styles, and so on, you get conflict of interest. And that's a shame. Because were all in it for one thing, because were car enthusiasts and want a place where we can talk about with others who share the same love for cars.

i know a Viper owner...... he's cool for the most part. when he was a teenager he saw the last 90s Viper GTS.... fell in love and immediately starting saving his money, 10 years later he bought one. he has intake, exhaust, sweet wheels on it and babies the crap out of it, until he goes up to NJMP, haha! but he understands that there's other cars on the road and is a really humble guy when it comes to his Viper..... he's a member on here too. i forget his screen name.

i gotta say this though. hot rodders and street rod guys are a totaly diff croud. those guys will help u out no matter what, theyll stand there and talk to u till the sun sets. you dont have that kinda interation with import owners and a lot of mustang owners, import people only care about them selfs and try to out hp the next guy, some stang owners are the same way, they have blotted egos cuz they have a 5.0, cowl hood and ET streets and their flowmater system. Street rodders and hot rodders have one main goal to be the loudest, roudyest and the coolest of the pack, they dont care what hp they have, they go for Style. granted hotrodders dont mess around when it comes to motors but they try to get both worlds into one car and they do it to with major style and sound. fat tires, straight pipes and super chargers. and if u nudge'em enough theyll melt the tires on their 80k hot rod or street rod with out care.

i can say this about some of the people i met here on TST no matter what they drove they always came up to me when i had the cavi and told me how nice it was and how clean it was.

I walked into this dudes barn an he had like 4-5 3rd gen camaros 2 were mint condition irocs one 305 one 350tpi both low mileage I think I dropped jaw an asked how much he wanted for the one lol but he wasn't selling. So we go to grab the doors an he's got freaking parts all over the place there was 3 doors sittin there in mint condition no rust or dents one was repainted. I was pretty much in heaven lol I almost bought an iroc-z kit but I'm trying to shave weight not add lol.

Haha I don't care about giving out info. Not many people know about the car really. I'm trying to put it back on the street where it was before I got it.

Just a little 383, set up for juice, with mild cam, Dart heads, stock block. Some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head which I'd need to find in paper work. Also, stock suspension, just Lakewood shocks and struts. 9" rear with 3.90 gears. Turbo 350 with TCI 3000 converter. Full weight, but no p/s, a/c or heat. Last but not least, 3" cat to 4" custom piping all the way back over the axle with Flowmaster 40 series muffler.

There might be more in it, but I've never messed around with the jets or anything in the carb.

My dream would be for a Malibu wagon drag car, on 275s, or if worse comes to worse just Malibu, or Regal.

SikneSS
01-18-2011, 11:06 AM
oh ok, so it's got a good bit of engine work to it, very nice man. so it's built for juice but it's not running it?

and that's a huge exhaust! haha!

if i can get this s10 i found, i have good plans for it. first option is LS1 swap but that's only if i can still get this great deal on the LS1 from a friend in NY. if that falls thru, i believe my uncle has a 350 collecting dust in his garage. i'd much rather do the LS1 because it seems all the v8 swapped s10's in my area have either 305 or 350. heck, if the 4.3 v6 that's in the s10 is still strong, i might do a custom turbo setup on it for sh!ts & giggles.

HickRocket1258

Most of the work that is done to it, was done by the previous owner. I'm not one to dump a whole lot of money into it. All I have changed was no p/s, electric pump and fan. That's about it. Couldn't break out of 12s since the day I owned it, but then boom, going 11.60s in good weather.

i haven't taken it to the track yet... i got it back in October and didn't have the time to take it.

i used to have an 06 Cobalt SS/SC, was putting down 245whp/217wtq (yea pretty weak stuff) and ran consistent 13.7s @ 105 mph with 2.2 60'..... i know the wagon is a lot faster than that and with the help of the factory launch control.... if i could rip off a 2.0 60', high 12s are possible as it sits now.

a lot of people are becoming aware of the trucks..... i go to Cecil every now and then... there's a few that run 11s, really cool stuff. back when i had my Cobalt i had a guy in a turbo diesel truck trying to mess with me, i put a few car lengths on him and let off..... he did a fly by and kept going. sore loser i guess.

probably a ford or dodge.

hate to say it but the diesel scene is a lot like the honda scene..just not quite as bad. every dumbass 17 year old with a diesel and a "chip" thinks he's the most badass thing on the market because his truck "rolls coal". it gets really annoying but it is fun to put them in their place

Yeah it kind of is light. No p/s, aluminum heads, lighter wheels (welds). It eventually adds up. Maybe it was more but I don't remember off the top of my head.

it was an older Dodge, probably just exhaust

i dont think it would be too much of a pig, he says it gets 32-34 mpg and judging by the video it has enough torque to get thru stuff. i wonder how much $ he has tied into the swap and what parts are needed.

if it was a 12 valve motor he probably just pulled the fuel plate over fueled the balls of the stock turbo.

dude, it probably goes through some stuff but ive been for a ride in 2 different 1.6 turbo VW's and they were both pigs and one had fueling mods. it could only get worse with the samurai. all that doesn't matter once you get into the trail though

<200ft/lbs ide be willing to bet

trust me you don't want an older Chevy diesel...they're all total garbage crap that might as well have been designed by a 4th grader.

the older ford diesels are "mechanically sound" but will never make any decent power what so ever and they will kinda nickel and dime you with little parts going bad all the time.

really, the only light duty diesels that were good from the get go have been the cummins as much as i hate to admit it. But today chevy holds the crown at least for now. record is sitting at 1700hp. in a DD truck with stock pistons!

4bt and 6bt cummins fit nicely in s10's and rangers ;)

If you're talking about the LQ4/LQ9 you're mistaken. They're identical in design to the LS1, just the block material is different. "Technically", my cam is for an LS1, but the LS1 (5.7L), LR4 (4.8L), LM7 and L33 (5.3L), LQ4 and LQ9 (6.0L) all contain lots of interchangeable parts, the only major differences are block material, bore, and stroke.

I'm totally thinking my ideal car would be a camaro with an LS1 in it, but just have converter and gears in it. Most tuners wouldn't know the difference and before you would know it, you are in the mid 12s.

RedBowTies88

Car is currently in a garage while I work on her during the winter. Just installed coilovers. Been tinkering with ride height all week. Adjusted 4 times so far, and still needs more. I'm letting her settle out a bit before adjusting again. Here's how it sits now with the current adjustment.

The G8 GT came with the L76, an aluminum block GEN IV 6.0L.

The LQ9 is an iron block GEN III 6.0L that came in the Silverado SS, Silverado VHO, '06-'07 classic Silverado Vortec Max, and the Escalades.

The LQ4 is identical to the LQ9, except it has dished pistons to lower the compression from 10.0 to 9.4:1, and the LQ4s prior to 2004 had an older connecting rod design. They were found in the Denalis (both Sierra and Yukon), the Sierra C3, and the 3/4 ton trucks and vans (the '99-'00 LQ4 also had iron heads, and a longer crankshaft, and will only work with the 4L80E trans).

Hick I originally took my GMPP 350 to the engine shop to be built into a FI 383. I wanted a bonnetted 383 with a vortec SQ-trim I think it was it's been a while since I looked. Then after like 2 weeks they called me an told me this dude just bailed on a 434 an if I wanted to do that instead they sell me the setup an build it for a "reasonable" price lol. Well my brother said ok before my wallet could say no. So we sold the block to them an bought a 400 block they had ordered for the guy. An that's my engine story lol it was suppose to be a weekend FI cruiser an is now something that my brother or me have dabbled in before. Goat, this has been a 2 year long project? haha

I can't imagine dipping money into a car like that. Why I try to buy one set up properly.

I will see if I can upload a video of one of my passes.

So I asked my dad if he wanted to help me with my valve body I got from TCI for my mustang. I also told him I would be getting gears installed on the mustang as well. He came back with do I really want to make the car not streetable and also said the sound you'll hear is from the gas tank sipping your money away haha. 4.10s aren't going to hurt as everyone really thinks.

Yeah my friend Chris has 4.10s in his '06. There's a drop in mpg, but it doesn't break the bank

What motor was in that? Luckily it's not my every day car either, but I guess I can only find out once I put it all in. And to think I want a different converter as well haha.

Mcguinty I think is his name right? I haven't met him in person but were facebook friends. He's friends with my buddy Kyle who works at XDP. He's been out to the street race spot a few times but I haven't been able to go beausey truck has been down. Pretty sure it's an internal head gasket leak but I haven't been able to do much with it between waiting for parts and hurting my back.

Possible I have some not so straight connecting rods as well. Trying to save to pull the motor for some upgrades but money is tight

That was the stock 350 we put in but the tune was probably way off too.

So I have decided to delay the 4.10 gear install. I do a lot of bracket racing with my mustang and as some of you may know with that, it requires good reaction times. I have developed my spot on the tree and decided to just keep the stock 3.27s in and later down the road install them. I will still be installing the valve body and trans cooler.

i actually could use lower gears i mine, wouldn't mind getting 3.42's to replace the 3.73's

SleeperGoat
02-03-2011, 04:47 PM
Someone hook me up with 3.73s for the goat lol with the 6 speed I rarely use 5 or 6 lol. I think spring time I'm gonna pick up half shafts, diff support maybe some gears an a clutch I'd actually like to see what the goat would do with DRs an not break something lol. We pulled a 118 pass with no traction till 3rd then flipping the switch once it hooked to finish off about 1/4 into 4th maybe abit more. This was on stock tires though which were horrible already. It was suppose to be just for fun till we saw the mph then we were like man we need a tire on this car lol.

I think like 2.2-2.4s they were pretty rough the guys on the forums said they were leaving at 3-5k we could barely leave off idle with out blowing the tires off. My tuner was there running his vette he was pretty bummed out he likes seeing his cars run but all we did was a burn out show.
