I've seen some pretty increadible build threads on here lately, and decided its prolly time to post a build thread on my newest POS. I picked the car up about two months ago from a member on TST (Anothony) for 300 bones. The car will be a semi-streetable drifter, it is a 95 240sx se shell, and my plans as of now are to go with a custom built 2jz-gte on a harsh budget. I will be keeping a total investment tally here, for everyone to see. Power goals are TBD, but I'm shooting for the 600whp mark on e85 with meth. for now. I've only been purchasing parts when a deal comes along either locally, or on the boards, and so the progress is alittle slow, but bare with me, and I promise not to dissapoint.

Heres a couple pics of the car before I got it.
(Ant I hope you don't mind, I stole a couple of your pics..)

He did include the Dash bar in the car, airbags, harness', front k-member/ rear subframe, all metal/glass from the doors back, and also included an open diff, I welded up, for a spare..

Cleaned it up alittle, and threw on some rust converter, and sealer afterwards. I think I'm going with 50mm over fenders, but if not I'll make a patch panel. Heres the cancer I pulled out of there to get to clean metal.
http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/Project%20Suprilvia/101_0283.jpg

Next up, I found a straight 2jz block in Maryland (virgin bore) for 10 bucks, and also tracked down a complete JDM TT head in Maryland for 200 bucks, so I made the long haul down to MD to pick my parts up, and eight hours/50 bucks in gas later, I ended up with these babies..

http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/20101013113941.jpg

Last parts I picked up for the engine so far, was the crank, and front sump oil-pan/windage tray set-up off an Aristo from a guy locally for 250.00 total. I also tracked down a set of used TT pistons, and rods for 150.00..
http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/IMG_0794.jpg

Since I'm pretty broke after I bought all these parts ($610.00 total engine to date) I decided its time to start working on it all..

I started by cleaning the block up, and replacing the freeze plugs. My sandblaster is in South Jerz, so I had to make due with what I had at my disposal, which happened to be a grinder, with wire, and cup wheel attachments. lol fun!

I think the color is pretty fugly, wasnt my first choice, but it was the only engine enamel I had laying around. It looks to be a mixture between JUN, and Kawasaki Green. Who knows, maybe this will lead to a new color scheme for the POS..

More updates tomorrow.. Already tackled pressure washing/painting the engine bay, prepping the head for build, and tracked down/aquired most of the rear suspension parts..

Troll: Whats up man? Yea, Ant and I were talking about your car when I picked the shell up. We got into talking about what motor I was putting into the s14, which turned into supras in the area, so of course I mentioned yours, and he got into telling me the crazy story of you guys pulling a late one to get your MKIV finished, to make it out to a show with it the next day..

LOL The color of the block may not be a permanent thing, but until final assy. its going to stay this way.. Trying to figure out what main/contrasting colors I will run for this thing isnt easy on a budget, but like I said in the earlier post, the green was all I had left in my stash.. lol wonder why?

BDub: It can be done, without breaking the bank, but unless your a good tuner, it can be a real headache from what I've read. I have a friend thats making almost 700whp on a ge.

I'm trying not to go much over 4K on this car, but I'm only buying parts when they are the crazy good deals I can afford, and most of the parts are/will be used, except the vital things like HG, ARP studs for main/head, piston rings, acl bearings, water pump, oil pump, and timing components. I also have my engine management situation figured out already, and do all the work myself, so that saves a ton..

Now for the updates, not much, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll just shut up..

Engine bay Before-After pressure wash/paint as follows

http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/Project%20Suprilvia/101_0317.jpg

Rear suspension parts I picked up from a J30. I will also clean these babies up too, may even make some of them adjustable by cutting off the joints, and threading in pillow ball/ heim joints.. If I start breaking axles, diffs, down the road I'll get a Supra TT rear set-up and just custom adapt the axles/diff to my subframe.

I dont know if you can see it or not, but I have 4 broken exhaust studs..

Pics of the head, after cams, and exh. studs were removed to clean, and replace the 4 broken studs someone prior to me tried to improperly remove. Cams/ valve-train may get beefed up as well, but I'm waiting until everything else is done first. I also started to P&P the exhaust ports alittle, but am not going crazy yet, so I can still port match to my exh. manifold. I may also unleash the combustion chambers alittle, maybe even do a 3, or 5 angle valve cut, since I am building this in a machine shop and all..
http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/101_0331.jpg

Pics of head cleaned up somewhat, really only cleaned the exterior of it. I'm still going to hot tank it, so the whole thing looks freshy fresh when I get it all put together..

I really stepped up my engine cleaning game, since I finally decided to man up, and just buy a soda blaster to clean all this fragile shiz, instead of just crying about my blaster thats down in south jerz..
So here it is.. Alittle before, and after again with the head..

Got bored again, so I decided I'd mix up a couple paints I had laying around from previous projects, (brandywine pearl, and candy purple) to spray my diff cover with, and heres how it turned out, dont mind the before pic, it was after I wire wheeled it, but before I soda blasted it..

I really, really like the purple, but I dont know.. So many decisions, so few dollars..

Since I bought the blaster, and its working so good, I may go back to re-do the engine bay by first soda blasting it, and then painting it again.. This will get rid of the few imperfections that still exist in the paint from prior scratches, I didnt prep well enough.. I should be taking my front suspension parts off of a friends wrecked 300z (aluminum 4-piston calipers, and what-not) around thanksgiving, so I'll post more on that coming up soon too.. Stay tuned..

Mini update: working on tubbing the front of the car out currently. Once I dug into the rust in the front of the car, I got really pissed off, so I just decided to cut it all out, which left me no other option. I wouldve eventually had to tub the front out anyway, to be able to run 10" wide rims, lowered, and make a full lock turning. Plus I like the clean shaved look anyway. Once I'm done with the front, I'll tub the back as well, thinkin 12" wide wheels for the back.. We shall see, I'll try to get some more pics up tomorrow.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Soda blasters sure make cake work out of cleaning soft metals. Isnt great on epoxy painted steel, (tried stripping a machine at work with the soda blaster) but thats why they make coarse blast material. I actually picked this blaster up from harbor freight, was on sale, marked down from 150, to 99 bucks, and to boot mine was an open box item, so I walked out with it for 50 dorra..

Finally picked up a new cam too, so were back in business for pic updates..
Havent had much car time since the last post, but heres the pics of me starting the front tubbing/semi tubing process.
I got all the bad cut out of the passenger side well, and now I am working on grafting in the new 12" deep wells, still need to make minor trimming to the well, where it mates to the inner fender. I am contemplating my method to add rigidity/integrity back to the strut tower.

Some more rust around the frame rail area.
http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/062.jpg
I really cant stand rust. Heres what ill be working with on the driver side. the rust on this side is towards the back of the tower, and thats the main reason I cut all the way back on the towers, otherwise I wouldve only front halved the towers, splicing into the sides of the towers. The other reason was because I honestly cant stand the dimples the factory adds to the wells for rigidity. They will look much better shaved with tubing supports from behind/underneath the wells/tower area. I guess I will also start to tuck the wires since I'm now doing engine bay.

Thanks man, appriciate the compliment.

Little Update: I changed the tubbs around again, thought up a cleaner way to do it, so things should go alittle smoother this way. I also decided to re-skin the whole engine bay, to clean things up more with the shaved, smooth look.

Heres some pics of progress. I'm designing templates of the skins on heavy duty thin cardboard , and then transferring over to metal. You can also see the cardboard templates I am making.

http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae46/gtrdhybrid/014.jpg

Still have to make up the inner tubb skins, and do a final trim on the inside of the tubbs, towards the frame, but its getting there. I didnt paint them to match the engine block, the metal I'm using is from a green 55 gallon drum I had laying around. Everything will get painted to match when I'm finished.

I'm in for watching this come together. Hopefully you don't bail on it like many others do when getting this deep into it.

Why e85 & meth? You could run one or the other and make the power your looking for safely, but i suggest 100% e85 if its easy available.

Good luck!

I only say e85 and meth cause the meth will be mostly a cushion, incase I cant get e85 in some places, and also nice to have both for putting down some nice numbers on the dyno safely.

Got some new goodies, now keep in mind, I am still trying to keep this a budget build, but I got a deal on these jambies I couldnt pass up.

Cams didnt come in yet, and wont be here for another two weeks approx.

Heres why I am pulling the tubbs back off, I had a friend over helping with mock up of the turbo system, just to see how everything would fit, in the bay. If I had been going with a single turbo like a 67-65 I would be okay with 10" tubbs, (would've still had to be trimmed down from the 12" that I had) but I am going the custom route as well with my turbo set-up. I feel my turbo set-up is just alittle bit more important than how wide my front wells are. Hint: Just so you get an idea of what I am building, how can you run a monster turbo, with virtually no lag/instant boost? Sled pulling diesel guys have been doing it for a long time, Boost Logic now makes a kit for the 2jz, and I've seen one dsm guy go this route as well, but of course my set-up will be the first in a 240, not to mention a 2jz/240. I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but if you got it, great, I'm not that good with secrets anyway. I'm still a ways off from being close to turbo fabrication. I Will have more car time this week, since I will be at the shop, instead of north jersey for a change.
