Well guys i recently picked up a 350 for my camaro, but its not the ideal motor that i wanted. Its a 5.7L 350C.I. small block, it came out of an 88-94 chevy pickup, its an HD block with a 4 bolt main, so the bottom end is pretty strong. Its a non roller motor though.. which i didnt like. After some research i found that the motor makes 300 ft/lbs tq, and 225-255 hp. The problem with these motors is the heads hold them back from the factory. I already have a Barry Grant Demon 750 double pumper that i bought from my uncle, and an Edelbrock high rise intake manifold, I just have absolutley no clue what heads to put on this thing.. i dont have the money for aluminum just yet, so im trying to stick with a set of decent flowing factory cast heads.

to sum it up.. heres my questions..
1.) I would like to put a set of heads on from a 70-73 z28 or nova ss, obviously a pre emissions standard car. is this possible on a non roller motor?

2.) Any of u Fbody guys running a similiar setup??

3.) am i going to run into problems putting a cam and heads on this because of it being a non roller? *obviously meaning roller cam, right now mine is flat tappet.

sorry for the huge post, but i am totally lost right now.. guess i was in the honda/nissan game to long and forgot my roots lol.. thanks ahead of time!

The carbs alittle big for the motor my friends running a 350 with a mild cam an he's looking for a 650 cause the 750 was just killing it especially a double pumper. I'd grab a cam kit if your gonna do it if I remember correctly when I threw one in my stock 350 the kit came with everything for a roller setup an it was like 600 bucks. Not sure on the heads though I can ask my brother he'd know.

Just to throw it out there, I have a Holley 650 DP laying around that Id be willing to trade for the 750, as long as its a mechanical choke.

I picked up a set of Heads from my uncle, sending them out soon to get freshened up and a port and polish. The 750 shouldn't give me a problem, I'm running a pretty aggressive cam and will also be using n fpr. (fuel pressure regulator)

find something with a 185-195 cc intake runner and a 2.02'' intake valve and 1.60'' exhaust. get a cam with about .500'' of lift and around 270 degree duration, throw some 1.6 rockers on it, and a good set of headers, and it'll make good power.

Yeah the 750 and the high rise are going to make it run.... in the higher RPM range. Now your going to want to match the cam lift to those, or go with a shorter runner intake. 750 double pumper is not bad for that as long as its tuned in right.

What is the compression ratio of the pistons?
Are the flat, dished, fly cut, dome?

Most likely they are stock flat or dished. If it were me I would go with

AFR 195cc SBC Street Cylinder Head
or
AFR 210cc SBC Competition Cylinder Head

And I would also do a 1.6 rocker, but convert to roller, no timing gear set up, just a double roller chain.

Patriots quality is junk

I have a 350 in my Chevelle
180cc Brodix heads 231/239 hyd roller dual plane holley and a 650 Holley dp, makes 376/382 at the wheels and has gone 12.22 @ 112 1.8 60'

You dont need special parts bur just the right combo

I have a set of brand new 7/16 screw in studs and scorpion race series 1.5 rockers I need to get rid of if your interested

if you on a budget i would say use the 96-99 truck vortec heads (600 bucks fully assembled from gm) a magazine took a low compression 350 with those heads and got 391hp.

Just watch used vortec heads, they tend to crack on the exhaust sides by the seats.
If you have a can over 450 life you will need to open the spring pockets up, cut the valve guide bosses down, and while in there I'd machine it for screw in studs abs guide plates right away also. Looking at about 350-400 in machine work, and you'll need narrow body rocker arms regular ones won't work, and if you don't use guide plates you need self aligning rockers. You also need a specific intake also, a regular ore 86 and 87-95 intake won't work.
