So, I'm looking for a new car. 2.5rs Coupe. Preferably SOHC... white or black would be nice. Anyhow, Bryan took a trip with me to visit one AFTER HOURS! ::gasp:: :devil:

Anyhow, It is a 99' RS Coupe in some <u>aweful</u> shade of blue. However it has a five speed, and roughly 65K on the clock. It has a FOC0S catback or something handicap. Needs a new drivers side turn lens, is missing the lid for the armrest and has a 2'' tear in the dash-top compartment thingy (technical term).

The asking price is very attractive... but it's obvliously been repaired, and not very well.

I have not run a VIN check yet, however if anyone could decrypt it for me that would be awesome.

ps, btw: Pete or others, care to chime in and use some of that magic to decern wether this is the SOHC or DOHC..? I read that it changed during 99'. I would suspect it changed when they updated the front end...

I'm most likely going to try to test drive it Monday or Tuesday.

Goin from the pics it looks like the front end has been repaired like you said and not very good. I would not get it it if thats the case. It might not show up even on carfax. CarFax only pics it up if it was in an accident and it went through insurance. See how it drives. Let us know. Alot of factors to consider.

Its all pretty simple repairs from what i can tell, minus the rip in the dash. Change out a few lights, get rid of that HIDEOUS catback and then being modding!! Buy it you litle pansy!!

My thoughts. I can't tell if this car hit something and the whole front end got twisted or if it is bad body shop work. I would bet the car got f'ed up and never got fixed.

Well, Auk was nice enough to carfax it for me. Odd thing is it was last registered in 99 w/ 177 miles. Also, it only lists one owner. Today I recived an email from the dealer it's at. Stating that the check engine light is on, needs wiper blades and it rubs a bit.

Check it out, look for obvious signs of mods.
The pic of the back of the seat shows that the rear seat was out(springs perhaps?), the CEL could be from a catless setup...

The rubbing would worry me, though. The wheels look clean(I like them).
What were they asking for it? IF you decide to get that one, I wouldn't pay more than $5.5K or $6K. Not in that shape.

They're asking 6 and some change. I spoke to one of the salesmen, he told me there is no paper trail for the car. I think when I said it rubs it was in regard to the front fairing. Also, the exhaust looks like it still has the factory piping w/ the exception of the mufler. CEL might be bad head-gaskets.

You will have invested into it well more than you would if you simply found a nice one that didn't require all that work.

I have my stock top center dash pocket if you need one. Take a code puller with you when you look at the car and pull the codes your self. It could be really bad it could just be something stupid like a loose gas cap. Looks like it may have been in a front crash. Try to look under the front of the car and see if you can see any damage behind the bumper skin. The last registered milage is way off something is up with that. I also think it is a SOHC. It has the later style bumper (small lip under the fogs) the eary bumpers of that style lacked the little lip.
