Hi everybody I am new to the whole subaru thing, I just bought this 03 wrx the car runs great but there a couple things that worry me like when I am driving it and it will be in gear while accelerating it will make a whining noise that will increase with the engine speed.

Also when I disengage and engage the clutch it will make a noise (like in the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKkyvXT9l7c )

When I am in neutral rolling it makes no noise only makes a noise when I am either accelerating or decelerating in gear.

The car is all stock to my knowledge and all it had done was a greddy intake that I replaced with the factory box.

It has 83k on it and the previous owner said he changed the tranny and rear diff fluid with red line oil but I bought Amsoil 75w-90 oil to change out the tranny oil to see if it will be any better.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I just need to know if it is bad for my tranny or not. :help:

It may be a bad throw out bearing...

Does it make the noise starting in first all the way through the gears?
Also if you are decelerating say in 4th gear then you push and hold in the clutch in does the noise stop?

It does it in every gear. Yes if I push and hold the clutch it wont make most of the noise but there is some small faint amount of noise still.

I am going to make a video and post it up because the car seems fine but I do not want the trans or clutch blowing up because I didn't react sooner.

Center or rear diff?

Check your tire pressure and make sure its the recommended 32F 29R or something in that same ratio.

My failing center diff would whine really bad if I didnt have the tire pressures at that particular ratio.

Neither are particularly difficult or expensive. :)

That does not sound like a TOB to me, unless there is only a barring race left of it.

Maybe center diff or a carrier barring in the trans. A true diagnosis is only going to happen at a transmission place, and even then they may have to pull the trans to figure it out.

I am to try the tire pressure to see if that does anything. I was thinking that it might be the center diff or TOB, like dangerousatom said I would have to take it to a transmission shop to get it checked out thoroughly.
I am still going to change the trans oil.

I want to thank you guys for you input and help so far I will keep updates just in case it happens to anybody else.
