this is what I picked up yesterday....no more spec-v thankfully.

hopefully this spec treats me better...

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w130/patruck9/100_1979.jpg?t=1287330902

plans are to keep it simple for a while, I wanna enjoy a nice reliable car, I don't need crazy power or anything, I'd just like it to have about 40 more HP..and a big part of that will be a reflash eventually... since the stock power band is odd, and really only has a 3k-5k rpm sweet spot.

I knew these came with Brembos, but are those 6-piston Brembos (Hard for me to tell in the pic)? Isn't that a bit overkill for a 210HP car? Well whatever, they look beyond sick.

nah they're 4 piston.....lol yes they're complete overkill...but then again, the 04-06 spec-vs had a brembo option.

If they are 4-Piston then they aren't overkill, I only meant it was overkill if they were 6-pot. I don't think 4-pot brakes are overkill on any car, but 6-pot on anything under 400HP (hell even 350) is. I have 4 pot brakes on my Sentra, and wouldn't you know it, Wilwood makes a 6 piston brake kit for Sentras. I think I even saw an 8-Piston set for them once.

Also, I think the only reason the 04-06 had the Brembo Option, was because they were aware how bad the torque steer could be in those cars so they threw in some better brakes to help fight it. Don't quote me on that but that is my opinion.

yeah, it's not a bad car stock...but the stock tune IMO doesn't really encourage spirited driving like you'd expect from a car like this....it has a much more economical tune, almost like you have to go out of your way to enjoy the car (not that I necessarily mind that) that's just what it feels like to me IMO...

last night Justin and I did the intake silencer delete...really woke the turbo up noise wise, along with the rest of the car, it boosts earlier and doesn't die off around 5k anymore and pulls virtually till red line (since I haven't driven this car to red line yet I'm guessing it doesn't die off too much in the last few hundred rpm)

totally worth the free mod it was. And although I think it's completely stupid, I understand why Hyundai put that intake silencer (aka retardedly restrictive piece of metal) in the intake. To quiet it up for the regular car buyer who would freak out probably if their car was making that much noise.

Good pick up man I always wanted to get one. Did u get manual or the auto? I know some kid with one who only has intake and turbo back and tune and he said he is in the 275 whp range

SpEcRv9
10-23-2010, 12:32 PM
it's a manual....I can't do autos....I was autoshifting the entire time in the tuscon

intake turbo back and a tune is usually around 240-250ish whp and 270-80ish wtq (from what info I've gathered anyone with a GC that knows more than me feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

nice pick-up. i've only got an intake and some exterior mods so far. saving up for a reflash. seoulfulracing has a reflash and i think it eliminates redline, raise boost, and some other things...can't remember off the top of my head. they have a sick 3.8 and they're not too far of a drive.

Good Luck with it. I actually like the stock wheels on it as it sits. If those weren't OEM wheels then everybody would be saying how nice those wheels look. TOo many people change wheels and end up making the car look worse. Check out amsperformance or buschur racing as well. I know they have some parts for your car. good luck with her.

whats the difference from the r spec?

SpEcRv9
02-28-2011, 01:31 PM
thanks dudes!

What car is easier to mod the v6 or turbo,...and which one puts down more power easier with mods

the v6 is has a limited market right now AFAIK....most I've seen do full exhaust/tune (haven't really looked into their market much in terms of cams and internal parts) and that will net them around 290whp IIRC..not sure of wtq, without a tune they'll be in the 260whp range....there are some supercharged/ turbo'd ones but very few and far between....and mostly in korea or in the hands of shops right now.

the turbo has a good sized market. Right now stock I'm probably in the 190whp range and 205ish wtq and with a TBE and tune, I should be in the 240whp and 270-80wtq range....unfortunately the stock clutch on these cars is pretty weak so it can't take much more than 280wtq before it starts to slip, so unless I'm building I should probably just check myself there..but that power should put me on par with a slightly modded v6....

Also, my car is very limited by the baby turbo...right now a popular turbo upgrade is the evo x turbos, which I may look into in a year or two....when I'm trying to get to the 300whp range....

whats the difference from the r spec?

the R-spec is a stripped track model for "tuners". It comes with the track suspension, brembo brakes, wheels and LSD......but doesn't get luxuries that come in the track model like cruise control, push button start, steering wheel controls (which IMO kinda felt cheap anyway) sunroof and a couple other tiny things I don't give a **** about...the R-spec is $3000 cheaper, which also played a part in me not giving 2 ****s about cruise control and a sunroof.

SpEcRv9

lol, I bought it in october and haven't detailed it once yet besides the ****ty dealer detail...I've been washing it regularly, I knew black would be hard to keep clean but damn I never expected this...justins camera and editing isn't hurting either

sometime in the spring I hope to find time to get an oakes detail and my car tinted @ gv. my work schedule is stupid though so it's hard to find time.

SpEcRv9
03-05-2011, 01:28 AM
okay since I'm impatient, I picked up eibach sportlines the drop is 1.4 in the front and 1.6 in the rear. With 15 or 20 mm spacers the car should look much more aggressive.

I figure I'll roll on these for a year or so and then upgrade to coils when I get wheels and what not.....the car is still relatively new, so I wanna wait a bit before I do any serious drop so I don't ruin what's still nice about it lol....

but anyway, they should be going on this sunday.

thanks to mark at JSC speed for hooking me up on short short notice!

SpEcRv9
03-06-2011, 08:25 PM
the car is dropped now...definitely a good temporary look to hold me over...I need spacers ASAP which I should be able to pick up when I get my car aligned at R/T hopefully this week.

Thanks to Justin and Aaron for doing the work...my lack of mechanical skills kept me on the sidelines most of the time, but I'm finding myself much more interested in learning and wanting to be hands on with this car than I was in my sentra...

Next up after spacers is a Downpipe which I hope to order next week....still haven't decided on the CBE I want just yet, and I already know what DP I want so I'm not waiting anymore...the mod bug has bitten me.

I'll get pics in a couple days when it's not completely ****ty out and my car is aligned with spacers.

Even though the 2.0t model has the same basic engine as the evo x.
Minus the internals, turbo, and everything good about the x. lol

I've heard from a few places and even a couple of people that the cars tapper off boost in higher rpms.

I also heard that a major limiting factor is that the motor isnt that strong at all.
especially the more its modded.

It's definitely not the strongest motor in the higher RPMs with the stock baby turbo lol....

the motors are strong for the most part....granted you can't pump double the HP into a stock motor and expect everything to be peachy (it's the same with 95% of production cars). The clutch only lasts till about 290wtq before they start slipping which is close to what what it puts out after a TBE and a tune....the rods are a bit thinner and a few other things.

I plan on building it up to around 400whp in a few years....I'll let you know then how my motor is holding up

Downpipe ordered...BUT I got a call from them within 10 minutes saying of course the one I ordered they didn't have in stock it'd be a special order from the original factory. I ordered 2nd day air, so it wouldn't get here for about 2 weeks, which negates the money I spent for 2nd day air...

So he offered me another DP on their website of lesser value which they had in stock, AND a turbo O2 housing that had a 200 dollar value for my troubles and that those 2 would be shipped out today....so I took that deal. Stuff should be hurr by monday or tuesday.

DPancoast
03-11-2011, 08:59 PM
Good stuff. What dp did you go with?

SpEcRv9
03-12-2011, 12:19 AM
Originally was the turbo xs stealth DP...but since that was the one that'd take 2 weeks, he bumped me down to a DC sports downpipe and threw in the synapse o2 housing that would ship immediately, I saved about 50 bucks and 2 weeks time overall with the deal he gave me, I honestly never had plans to get rid of the 2nd cat though...so I dunno what I want to do with the synapse piece....

but hopefully I can get at least the DP on by the R/T dyno day...

I gotta give it to genracers customer service calling ME virtually immediately to tell me it had to be ordered from Turbo XS and would take longer. I hate when you get emails from the company telling you it's backordered, or not even telling you at all until you checked in with them until a few weeks later.

DPancoast
03-12-2011, 11:49 AM

Dyno'd the car today at R/T's dyno day...car put down 190whp and 214wtq....which met my expectations, so I was happy with those numbers.

Car sounded great man, just need a bigger turbo! Do they have any "drop in" bigger replacements like an Evo turbo or something?

SpEcRv9
03-26-2011, 04:27 PM
a lot of guys are doing evo turbos....but that requires a different manifold than the stock one, so they're sorta "drop in" as long as you drop in the mani too

Going that route for 300ish whp would be a cheaper idea than a bigger aftermarket turbo that lags till 4.5k. But right now I'd like to concentrate on 240whp and getting what I can get from this baby turbo first.

the DP thats in my trunk (clearly the place it belongs ) should put me in the 200/225 range and then a PA flash should put me in that 230ish whp, 280ish wtq range on the canned tune...then I'll be pretty much maxed out on the stock clutch.....so I'll sit on that until probably next summer....or this fall when 230hp isn't enough for me anymore haha.

Here's a pic I took of my graph with my itouch, it's a pano of like 3 shots stitched together so it's a bit jumbly around 5500rpms due to my shaky hand and not the dyno graph.

If by lovely you mean harmful intoxicants.....than no...lol...I'm getting a bit of a rattle around 3k when I'm fully warmed up....can't tell if its a bolt or its vibrating against the heat shield....either way, more loud should fix that problem. :****yeahhhhh:

lol...
