So I am fairly certain I have a virus that's blocking me from accessing the Windows Update sites. Any site with a URL containing "windows" an "update" have the connection reset... Any other way to obtain the latest updates without a CD, etc.?! Thanks!

I scan my comp every day and delete viruses every day.. it's starting to piss me off actually.. I'd love to have it removed, of course.

Using AVG is your first problem. Get a free trial of Eset NOD32 and clean your computer up the right way.

You will spend as much time trying to clean that thing up as it will to just format and reinstall the OS and software.

Do a scan in safe mode, it should help clear out the "Object is inaccessible" issues. I also use AVG and have forever without any virus problems.

Thanks guys. FWIW: Safe mode doesn't work. It reboots in Safe Mode, runs for a minute or two, then overheats and shuts off.....

If it overheats then you may want to crack open the case and take a vacuum or canned air to it.

It only overheats during Safe Mode (with and without networking).. I'm fairly certain it's a virus or malware causing that issue.

sounds familiar.

Try super antispyware

No need to purchase it either. :)
