Hey I have a 2004 passat with a 1.8t in it. I am looking for a chip for it. I have seen a giac chip from awe tuning for $500 but I have also seen chips for like $60 bucks. Can anyone give me some insight on this or recomend a chip for my car?

The $60 "chips" are not worth your time to even look at. There are other brands including Unitronic, APR, Revo. Each company has their pros and cons. Now is a good time to get software since most have a sale during H2o.

I personally recommend Unitronic, even without my bias opinion, I have a hard time finding cars with the other tunes that are actually faster or feel like a better drive compared to it.

you get what you pay for in a situation like this. I mean there may be one company that's cheaper then the other but the cheaper they are the less reputable they possibly are. Your best bet would be to search on vwvortex or audizine and figure out the most popular one.

A real tune like this:

Or some of the other companies listed.

I have the apr chip and am very happy with it. Wait till apr has a special to get the best deal. Garrnet VW off of 202 is an authorized deal for apr and that's where I got mine done when I bought my Passat.

how much hp did you gain?

I don't know exact #'s but I can switch between stock mode and 93 oct. mode and there is enough increase to justify the price.

Go with Unitronic Or Check out C2.. GIAC is ok but the newer stuff seems to be a bit more aggressive.. You get what you pay for..

I run Revo in my MKV and love it.
Went Stg2 at 10,000mi, 2+ at 15,000, getting ready to it 40,000 and have not had one single issue. Car runs strong
