I am a huge fan of The Juliana Theory. I've been following them since they put out their first album and I've almost loved everything that comes out of their studios. They are an indie/emo band if you want to label them, but their style changes so much between each album and they have such a wide array of topics and themes covered, it's really hard to just dismiss them as Emo.

They've just announced they are breaking up, after one of their best albums to date. There is a short version of the story and then a long story on their webpage. If you can withstand the small print, I highly advise reading the longer versions. It's really just an interesting insight to the band's life and where things went up and down. I experienced these guys live MANY times and I have two distinct stories in my head about them.

The first one relates to their big rant about the music scene as a whole these days. I remember it was a Drive Thru heavy tour with The Juliana Theory headlining. Something Corporate finished up their set and TJT was coming on.....and the place practically cleared out. All the 12 and 13 year old teenie boppers were gone (if you are familiar with soco, you'll understand) and there was a few small groups of people, mostly my age and older, waiting to hear them. Juliana Theory noticed and made a comment and just kinda looked at us all with this look like "thank you and we'll still play our hearts out" and they did just that. Sure, they made their money that night. The show was sold out and it was in one of the larger venues in philly (but still quite intimate) but you could tell (since they said it, lol) it was important for us to hear the music.

The last time I saw them was with Finch, The Ataris, and another big band I can't remember. It was at this small ass bar in Allentown that they took the walls down since it was summer to make room. The place was an absolute mad house. But packed for their set. And it was the best show I've ever seen to this date. It was amazing. The crowd was totally infused with energy. Hell, they ended up having the guy from ataris come out and sing on a crowd forced encore that went on for 15mins, a second dummer/set, a second bassist, and a 3rd guitarist, all from the other bands. And they weren't even the headlining band.

They are a PA based band and one of our best IMO. All you need to do is buy one album, and you'll be hooked. Trust me. I heard "Constellation" for the first time and that was it. I bought every album afterwards. It sucks to see these guys end this way. You can read their post and realize it was about the music. But in the end they can't afford to play anymore so now it has to be about the money.

if you're a fan, you'll understand why naming the news headline, "the juliana theory is dead" is funny.
