A miata I might buy has this problem.
Headgasket?
1996
60k miles
I think he mentioned the transmission seal is leaking?(checking up on this now)
edit:I'm not buying it. It has a Automatic transmission.

what color is the smoke? usally white head gasket, burning coolant. blue smoke burning oil
if it's purple smoke, that's bad, don't buy it

Smoke is white. They say it's not the head gasket. It was driven at least 500 miles like this.
oops ABORT! I just looked closer at the interior. It is a automatic. Sorry.

hard acceleration and black/blue smoke isnt that big a deal. whites probably a head gasket.
