Hey, hows it going guys? So anyway, I needed something to drive to my Co-op with US air and back every day while at Pitt this fall semester, and I have been looking for a good car for a while. I was looking used, leaseing, etc (looked at a lot of used cars, was getting a little frustrating), but then a couple days ago, I drove by this:

Yep, that is a 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon. 220HP out of a TD04 turbo feeding a 2.3L 4 cylinder (FWD). At first I was not sure about a Saab, but after driving it I was sold. Handles great (Aero suspension), has good power, great brakes, and is really luxurious for the 6k I paid for it (leather, heated seats, moonroof, really just overall comfy while still being sporty). Has almost 89k miles.
Plus, I really like the look of the 9-5 wagon. I'm sure a lot of people don't, but I think it is one of the best looking wagons out there.
So anyway, as for mods, not much while I need it at school. Maybe some tint, a little here and a little there but thats it. I do know there is freeware software to tune the stock ECU like a standalone, which is sick, so well have to see how long I can fend off the urge to mess with it.
And yeah I still have the miata, it is just put on hold for, well, probably the rest of college. V8 swap after? haha .
Pics in the next post.

Yeah it would, seems you can make around 270 hp outta these engines with just a tune.
And did I mention you can tune the car with freeware???

Trailer hitch it and you could tow your Miata.
I've been thinking about a side car for the Miata too. What was your list of choices?

Well I was looking at a lot of stuff really, aka I had no list. My only requirements were FWD/AWD, 4-6k, and a good amount of room. I just happened to drive by the 9-5, and once I saw it was a manual aero, I jumped on it.
It can tow up to 2500 lbs fyi. Would be cutting it real close with the miata+trailer weight.
Cool car!
Thanks, I was always a fan of your wagon.

Those are pretty cool. One came in as a trade at my job. I just had to take it around the block lol

So while driving the Saab, I relied I am spoiled by the miata's shifter. This in comparison (while one of the best shifters out of the used cars I have driven) feels like rowing a boat lol. Maybe a short shifter is in order...

It really makes for a great daily, plenty of room and it is loaded. I mean the rear seats are heated haha. Saabs just happen to plummet in price for some reason.

Seems great for the price... what kind of mileage does it get?

I got around 25.5 on my way back from ocean city, nj to media, pa (as indicated on the dash). I'm now down to about 21 from driving around town, and thats while driving pretty spirited.
I am 1/4 way through the first full tank in it, ill report back when its near empty with the mileage.

A lot of people really do like SAAB's. My brother was interested in a 9-3 turbo for awhile and I was surprised at how fun they were when I test drove one. It definitely does look like you got a great daily. It's loaded, has tons of room, and is still fun to drive. You can't beat that.

nice man i just sold my saturn and am picking up a 1999 9-3se on wed as my new daily. I have heard mixed things about these cars, but i think thats coming from people who dont know how to fix things on there own and have to pay a ton to get them fixed, lol.
