My dads told me at the dealership that he works at that they just got a used jetta on the lot. He said one of the salesman was takin it for a spin said it was a nice quick little car, and ive kinda been looking for a nice dd for college. I go up and look at it, mk4, red, stock alloy wheels, debagded, some stickers and exhust, red brake calipers. It didnt have the gli body kit, just a stock looking jetta. The lot attendent left it unlocked and i saw it was a 6speed with 53k on it. So is it a vr6 or a 1.8t possibly? Idk seems out of my price range but my dad gets any car for 1000 over what they buy it for so i may scoop it up.

open the hood or grab the vin and run it online

Umm look under the hood and count the cylinder to eliminate VR6 from 1.8T, then check the vin like ^ dude said

It could be one of 3. It's either a 2.0, a 1.8t, or a vr6. What year was the car? But since it has a 6 speed i would assume that it would be the vr6. but just pop the hood and look at the engine.

The dealer doesn't know what kinda car they have on the lot?

I'm no VW expert so I don't know if the 1.8t Jettas had a 6-speed as an option, but I don't think so. If it's debadged I don't see why you don't just pop the hood as others said or just ask the dealer. I don't know how you'll possibly get a better answer on here then just looking for yourself.

6 speed is a 24v vr6

Probbably a MK4 GLI (older ones came with the vr6, newer ones with 1.8t). If it doesn't have the "GLI Lip" then it's probbably the GLI VR6. They basically look like regular Jettas unlike the newer which stood out more.

its a GLI of some sort.

you could only get the six speed with the 24v vr6 (GLI only), or the 1.8t GLI. - otherwise, the 12v GLX jetta was a 5spd, and all other 1.8t's were a 5spd. and there's NO such thing as a 6spd 2.0 in the mk4. that motor sucks....

The 24v came in any jetta not just the gli if it's a vr6 it's a 24v it replaced the 12v, The car is probably a jetta glx.

If it's a 6-speed it's the super limited edition rear wheel drive version of the MKIV GLickmydick..

I have to admit...this is one of the only things I've read today that I genuinely laughed out loud to.
