It sounds like you can't just buy it from someone and register it. I hear the previous owner had to be in your immediate family.

Any way around this?

Not that I know of. This is why I kept mine when I sold my WRX. The kid who bought it wanted the plate badly, but there was no way I was going to include it with in the sale. I made him choose between the plate and the car. lol

I wonder if you can be adopted and then transfer the Dare tag from your new family. It seems to be the only way. Yeah, I'm not doing that.

How about ask the guy at the tag place?

way harder and more indirect than asking a bunch of opinionated non-experts online!

i plate is registered to a specific name, so if you never owned one, there is no legal way to get one.

your best bet is to get that dark brownish train one and tint it a little darker haha.

or move to delaware.

People are selling them, but from whats been stated on this board before you can not transfer it to a new name. Keeping it in the same name/family and transferring the tag to a new car is allowed if I understand those who have already transferred it.

Technically, the plate color does not all under any code. Ever see commercials with painted mated plates. As long as the numbers and state ID are visible.

i've looked into it. it can only be transferred to an immediate family member. even if you buy one from someone else, penndot will not register it to you.

So the black dare plate sitting in my garage, I could have registered to my name/vehicle if I wanted? It was my brothers.

I love my dare plate. I thought it was really dumb when they made it look like the regular plates. Who seriously would buy the new ones?

With that being said I wonder if I could get a new plate made but my same plate? Like say it's starting to not look as good as it used to. I wonder if they'll make me a duplicate.

Take your plate to a body shop for a price quote?

Sounds like a horrible idea. lol. I wonder if you want a duplicate if they make you get a new style one or not.

i believe they can get you big time cause technically i believe the state owns the plate so they will try to get you with some bs of destroying property. just my .02

Yeah I never understood how that worked. I know when you get rid of a car and don't carry over the plate you're supposed to send it back. Doesn't make sense since I paid for my plate and when you buy a car you pay for your plate. I don't see how they would own it. lol
