I'm trying to help someone out in the Mazda community, he isn't a member on here so I'm posting the info. He posted on NASIOC but I thought it would help alot posting on here. I'll forward any info to him

The VIN is (JF1GD70604L517664) in case they posts it on any adds tryin to sell it.

So I traveled to New Jersey this weekend for my best friends wedding and my STI got jacked! (Stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott, Princeton/South Brunswick, 4225 US Highway 1 P.O. Box 8388, Princeton, New Jersey 08543.)

Was in the process of getting ready for the wedding reception, when I heard my car alarm going off? Looked out the window and some guy hotwiring my whip. I was literally in my boxers and ran outside. I tried to grab the car door handle and it was locked, so I banged on the glass etc... but the guy got it started and pulled out of the spot. My wife was freaking out, and the guy actually had another guy with him that sped off behind him in an Acura TSX? The most surreal thing it was in the middle of the day, like 6pm? Had to call 5.0, file a report, call the insurance, etc…

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up and let you know to be careful if traveling in this area. Luckily lots of folks were there from College that we knew, so we were able to get a ride back to the DC area this afternoon.

Here are a few photos & the specs on the car; I assume it stripped down by now. Now I gota deal with all the headache of working with the insurance and my bank on the appraisal. LOL

Makes me sick when anyone does anything to anyone elses car, from keying it to stealing it. It makes me sick. The other week, someone ashed their cigar on my car, I FLIPPED. I would have ****ED this kid up but I cooled down and drove away. It also could have been an accident lol

Not surprised it happened in central jersey. That area is notorious for having an extremely high Subaru theft rate. I usually here tales of WRXs getting jacked from Menlo Mall.

Hope he gets it back and soon, and I hope the bastards that stole get whats coming to them.

what ashame, that thing had lotsss of work done to it, i hope they track it odnw, but if it wasnt found wihtin 24hours those parts are more than likely halfways across america by now.. i think everyone should have some kind of theft protection (as far as immobilizers etc) in their car if it is even a little done up.. im truely sorry to this guy, what a ****ty way to celebrate a wedding.

Just saw something cool on TwoGuysGarage. Essentially you hard wire a cheap phone inside your car and set it up to auto-answer. Then if your car gets jacked you can call the police, give them the phone ID number and they can call the service to triangulate the position. Its not as good as a GPS tracker (as it only gives a general area)but it'd be pretty cheap and might work in the above case. They were saying that you can get a phone plan for a few bucks a year if you never or rarely use the phone, which would be the case if used for this purpose.

show me a cell phone plan that would only cost a few bucks a year.

your best bet, and more expensive bet, is a newer cell phone w/ GPS enabled. there are a number of applications on the market now that require an email or text to the cell to activate that will respond back w/ it's GPS location.

of course, you're looking at an additional 50-100/month to run something like that.

sucks what happened, should have ran down stairs with a bat or a brick or something. i'd take a broken window and an assault charge to stop someone from stealing my car.

actually... i'd let them steal it... so i could get a 5.0 haha

Only repeating what I just heard on the show. But I don't see why you couldn't set up something like this for this purpose on the cheap. I do agree doing it with a phone with a GPS locater would be alot better though.

unless you properly insure your vehicle

Central Jersey is fictional. Princeton is North Jersey, you have a better chance of seeing NY skyline then Philly.

Otherwise I feel for that dude, I've only had my STi stolen in dreams.

That's crazy that they were able to hotwire it so quickly! Everyone says "it's so easy to hotwire a car" which in a way it is fairly simple, but to do it in the time it takes someone to run downstairs and outside... they were probably pros. Such a shame... I don't care how mad i get at somebody, it really takes me to the last bit of my sanity to mess with somebody's car. It's unrealistic to say i hope he gets it back, but I really, truly hope these guys get caught.

that really sucks, how ever if he would have ran out w/ a loaded piece and shot the pos that was atempting to steal his car and the other douche that was in the TSX He would have been a Hero....

It takes 2 hours to completly strip a car down to nothing and cut it in 5 pieces, With 3-4 focused people who know how to diss-assemble a car completly to the last nut/bolt. I've done it in my garage already to cars I buy to part out then junk. (ALWAYS make sure you have a title/ proof of ownership if you are doing this, Because when the cops show up, You'll want to instantly show the documents to eliminate what will happen if not shown). I'm sure this car is unfortunatly parted out, And the sections of the actual car are either at a metal yard, Or spread throughout 1-3 different scrap locations. The minute you cut a cars body, You no longer need a title or proof of ownership.

I'm sure he had full coverage on the car, So that is a good thing being he will get his money back.

Not surprised at all. I wanted an STI like 5 years ago but after reading about all the theft I realized I didnt want to lose sleep over my car getting stolen. I think I read a story about a guy getting held up at gun point in newark for his sti

Yea, but in general, u pretty much shouldnt go to newark for anything at all. Its a ****hole.
