I recently posted on the "what do you look like" thread and was told to set something up here telling my story so here it goes.
May 20, 2004 I turned 16 and got my first 240. It seemed like every week something was breaking on my beloved piece of crap which was okay for a while as long as it was easily replaceable for cheap. I soon grew tired of pulling from 6 or 7 junkyard cars and decided to start looking for a parts car of my very own. It didn't take me long once I really started looking. I went to find some random part in one of the more organized junk yards and as soon as I pulled into the parking lot, I looked into the yard and there was a 240 staring at me. I went in and asked for the story behind it. They told me they had just gotten it in and they think someone had run into a guardrail with it. The tranny was questionable but other than that, it was a relatively clean. Complete with a rusted-infused rubber-winged hatch, a busted up piggy front end and a muffler large enough to make a turbocharged supra happy... How much? 600 bucks. I'll take it.
So now I had my parts car. When I got home, my parents were kind enough to give me both garage spots for a few days so I could really check out both cars. Turns out the one I was driving daily had frame rust far worse than I had originally suspected. Enough that would cause it to not pass inspection in December (this was sometime around sept-oct 2004) so as I wallowed in my misery, I began researching what it would take to make my junkyard find street legal. Turns out it was mostly paperwork and waiting for Harrisburg to give the green light. All I needed to do was provide photographic evidence that I had restored the car to factory or better than factory condition aesthetically and prove that it was safe enough to create trouble on the roads of the US of A once more.
The next series of months were spent in said parents garage putting on a laundry list of modifications. I'm sure this part will need editing as I remember more but for now, here is a list...
Starting from the outside and working in we have a complete body kit (Abflug side skirts and rear valence with DRFT front bumper cover, front Kouki driving lights, rear kouki lights, REV speed six wheels (a bit too thin I know. This is something I plan on upgrading once I start getting a steady pay-check), and streetglows which was one of the first things I got for the car and one of the last things to go on it. The streetglows have since been removed. Let me know if you want a set of red streetglows .
Every piece of the exhaust was upgraded. I used ebay 4-2-1 headers (obx racing), a random technology high flow cat, and a 5 zigen rocket cat-back.
The transmission, which was removed about five times prior to its eventual replacement was kept stock. The clutch and flywheel were replaced with act and fidanza goodies. The cherry topping for this assembly was the ebay short-shifter that broke a few hundred miles into its usage and until recently caused a horrible rattling noise.
The suspension was tightened up with KYB-AGX shocks and struts with eibach sportline springs. I also equipped it with front and rear upper strut bars.
The interior is primarily stock with the exception of a momo jet steering wheel, momo pedals, a pair of corbeau A4 seats, and a nice custom bright red paint job on the rear side panels (thanks p.o. :o).
At the time, I left the engine relatively untouched as well equipping it with an injen intake, magnecor ignition cables and a chrome valve cover.
The next summer (2005), I took it to carlisle P&S and surprisingly won two trophies! Best in show Nissan/Infiniti and Best in show Undercarriage.
For the next few years while I was in college I rode it out keeping everything unchanged until recently when I graduated.
I began speaking with Jon from Street Solutions shortly after I graduated and ended up going through him to get an sr20det installed. He was great to work with did excellent work. A list of current mods to the sr are as follows
Apexi Power FC intake
Walbro fuel pump
PS Lines
A/C delete
Blitz intercooler
HKS SSQV BOV&hotpipe
trust downpipe
circuit sports turbo elbow
exedy spec 2 clutch
Greddy profec 2 boost controller
Boost gauge
Greddy turbo timer that has not been installed yet
Pictures!!!!
Unfortunately during the initial build, I did not have a digital camera so I only have completed pictures. I will try to make a note to bring some of my 5x7's with me to various events...
