what are the 4g63's common leak points? I haven't taken a look yet but my galant brewed a nice puddle of oil under it the other day so I've left it parked till I have a chance to get cracking on it.
so what is a common leak on these motors? crank sensor? valve cover gasket? etc.
I ask cause most motors have a weakness like older bmws love to leak oil from the valve cover gasket or through the oil pressure sensor, etc.
thanks

The only spots I have heard leaks form in the 4g63 was the head gasket and for some reaosn the oil pan....I doubt its the oil pan though.

Valve cover gaskets, as well as the front case/oil pump area.

i would say valve cover or head gasket check those first look at the motor you can usually tell where the dripping is coming from if its one of those

LOL.
The only places the 4g63 will leak from, stock, is the valve cover gasket and cam seals. If they have never been cracked open before I've never seen the other things leak even on cars up to 250k. (I just did a clutch job on G1GSXs car and was surprised to see the rear main seal was bone dry, lol).
And I've never seen a bad, stock, headgasket leak externally. Although I have seen one leak externally with what looked to be a wrong gasket.
On the other hand the transfer case is well known for leaks. In fact, there was a recall issued for this initiated by the NHTSA probably in part due to the Talon Digest community.
I've driven my car with an empty transfer case for 100 miles or so with no problems. I wouldn't recommend this though. When the transfer case finally locks up it will lock all four wheels and in some cases have been attributed to fatal accidents.

Another thing that likes to leak on older DSMs is the seal at the power steering pump.
And I've also seem cars that aren't driven much leak at the rack and pinion unit near the inner tie rods.

well it's motor oil that is leaking. does the gearbox take atf/mtf fluid or gear oil? this will help me narrow down where I'm looking cause the bottom of the car is all wet.
worse thing is that the car is parked on a hill so checking the dipstick won't tell me much.

The oil drain line has been known to rust out. Have tried to norrow down the general area were it's comming from

The gearbox likes either Redline half MT90/MTL, BG Synchroshift, or Pennzoil Syncromesh. If you try to stick anything else in there you will most likely end up with a very bad, hard shifting DSM.
You can stick any kind of gear oil in the transfer case. I like Redline shockproof heavyweight.

found out the gearbox has BG Synchroshift in it at the moment. the new box will get the same treatment if not, it'll get Pennzoil.
found the leak today, it's the crankshaft sensor gasket....oh and turned the boost up to 20psi too.
