View Full Version : EGT on Stock STi?

Im in the process of picking out my Defi Gauges but I was wondering if the EGT gauge would really be necessary on a stock STi. I know the EGT is a very important for tuning but I don't think I'll be touching the engine any time soon. My though process is if I do need it in the future I can always add on. I figure the three gauges I would need would be boost, Oil Temp, & Oil Pres. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks.

EGT isnt as important as say a wideband 02. you can use an egt to see when you are running lean (temp spikes), but a wideband is a better option.

EGT is the most important and useful gauge on a car along with a wideband 02 gauge. if the car in question is turbocharged, then a boost gauge bumps into the #1 spot, followed by EGT and Wideband, IMO. Oil temp and pressure dont hurt, but are not important unless you are indeed racing regularly IMO

If you're leaving the engine stock, those are the three I'd go with... they're definitely the best for making sure things are optimal so that your turbo leads a long and healthy life

EGTs are always very high on Subies with stock cats and especially a tune.
Mine:
normal cruising 1400F
Extended WOT runs will creep up around 1450-1500F depending on ambient.
