Day One

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0986.jpg
As you can see the front end was aligned like a big pile of dog **** the center garnish was foggy, and the One light was very saggy.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0987.jpg
Here you can see the damage from a lady backing into him and leaving..
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0988.jpg
Side shot of the car when it arrived.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0989.jpg
These went first..
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0990.jpg
Really the only rust on the car. anyone got a 1/4?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0991.jpg
Showing off the tails.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0992.jpg
Engine bay, Needs so much work under there to look good. Which i will start to tackle tommorow, I'm not use to the very little room i have to work.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0993.jpg
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0995.jpg
ISIS oil pan.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN0997.jpg
Interior is horrible right now.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1000.jpg
Trunk was filled with parts.

Okay, so that's how the car arrived. I'm already in love because as i was working on it i found so many surprises some good some bad.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1002.jpg
Starting to tear down the front end.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1003.jpg
Believe it or not, The front end was held on by nothing but zipties, Now its held on by bolts and one ziptie.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1004.jpg
My brother going to town on the center garnish.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1005.jpg
Supposedly the car only had coilovers. Well, I cleaned the **** out of all the suspension pieces, still not done. But It turns out everything is aftermarket except the one set of arms, in the front it has tension rods and im not sure what tie rods.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1006.jpg
Got the trunk emptied, started repaint it. It was half flat black, half gloss, half red.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1007.jpg
Front end went back together fast, my brother Is good with that stuff, onlything thats off now is the hood, it just has bad fitment. I need hood pins, as much as i hate them.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1008.jpg
I found a ebrake cover in my friends car, thank godd!! next is a shift knob and shift boot..I also put my matts in and cleaned the seat but didnt take a pic.
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1009.jpg
Oh yeah, look what works now!?

Day Two

Tommorow, the car is going to the shop to get the strut tower rust fixed. Today all i did was take it out for a test drive, i ran my intercooler over. And Then i got it home after a long time of ghetto fixing. Now it its very secure. I also managed to do somethings.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1010.jpg

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g299/Nickmerrone/DSCN1012.jpg

make sure you leave the black box above the exhaust manifold

Nick Merrone
06-28-2010, 10:55 AM
Why? I'll be removing it when i add the other catch can.

Also valve cover gasket's are done. Next is fix the powersteering pump.

Got Insulin?
06-28-2010, 12:39 PM
Good luck with it. I've also got garage envy: a storage shed is way, way better than working in a 45* driveway and leaving an unfinished car in the elements. Just keep that right foot in check.

I know about manifolds cracking and blah blah blah. I don't care if it cracks i pull it out and weld it back. No big deal.

Anyways, Trans is destroyed pretty much, it grinds when its at high rpm's.

KA24, SR20, CA18, RB20 are all the same trans. The only difference between them is usually 5th gear. (Also, some people say the RB20 Trans is a tiny bit longer than the rest, but I'm not too sure.)

If you get the current one rebuilt you probably won't have any issues with it unless you're making more than 300hp with some manly tires, at which point you should look into using either a VG or VQ Trans.

hence why i said they are all weak =) and yea my rb trans is longer afaik. I also use the automatic driveshaft with it to work on the s13 i believe. was so long ago.

Weak is a relative term though. For someone with 250hp, any of the above transmissions are plenty strong.

For someone with more than 300hp, then they should start looking into other options if they plan on abusing the trans/the trans has a history of abuse.

I've heard of people using 5-speed drive shafts with RB20 swaps, I think it all depends on what mounts you use.

People run SR trannies to 400-500whp fairly often.. I see it all the time on zilvia. Seems like most guys running z32 trannies are above 500.

Hell, the main reason people shy away from the s15 trans is because its only good to about 320whp. The 5 speeds are regarded as significantly stronger. If the 5 speed was only good to 300whp, im sure the 6 spd would be much more popular. (aside from the vss being on the diff.. thats kinda a buzz kill lol)

It really depends on what you're using the car for.

This car was previously drifted on numerous occasions and just all around had the crap beat out of it. I know most higher mileage transmissions will start failing around 300whp.

I drove one I don't like it. I also don't like coupes. I miss having a hatch cause you can hear your exhaust. In the coupe. theres a big wall seperating the back of the car from the drivers seat. lol.

yo did ur hatch ever have a random misfire problem while at idle or cruising? i was at my buddies shop trying to figure out a random misfire problem (reason he called u about that relay)

Nick Merrone
07-09-2010, 12:29 AM
nah bra. Only problem it had was the warm up one. where you had to let it warm up before driving it or else it'd stall. And the relays if you followed the wires it went to the fans, I just tucked everything nice and neatly.

That drone will get ollllldddd after a while if you have a loud TBE. I put my interior back in because it was driving me nuts cruising at 70.

The new car came gutted. I've slowly been buying interior to put it back in. Only piece not going in is the rear seats, cause of the harnesses. Should be picking up the harness bar soon, then possible full cage.

New trans is in..

but i've been playing with the car the past two days @ Verve Motorsports. We were drifting it, broke it a bunch of times and fixed it. Verve is awesome. But anyways, Car needs a driverside balljoint so i figure ill just replace both then do some bushings. It has aftermarket tension rods but im getting rid of them for some ISIS ones probably. These ones are beat..Also, Might be putting a disco potatoe on it if all goes well. Then Nistune as soon as it comes in. Just waiting for it to be delivered @ Verve.

Other then that the car feels more reliable now My crossmember was not even bolted to my trans. and I had no trans mount either. Nice.

their bolted down with the correct eye bolts or whatever. Bolted in stock locations. Their fine. & my little turbo screams.

Honduh
07-17-2010, 07:36 PM
If you have them mounted to your rear seat belt locations you must not like having a spine very much.

Nick Merrone
07-17-2010, 07:38 PM
Thats where they'd be bolted to either way..Even with a harness bar.

Honduh
07-17-2010, 07:42 PM
Yeah but its all about the angle.

Can't you fab your own harness bar, you seem handy with that kind of stuff?

Nick Merrone
07-17-2010, 07:49 PM
I thought about it. but for like 150 bucks it'd be easier to buy it. rather then make one, get it powder coated. etc..

Yeah, but is it going to fit you is the question. How do you know it will sit at the correct height? Do your harnesses have an ASM? Or are they 5pt at least?

What's a asm?

Anti-submarining mechanism. Schroth uses it on their 4pt harnesses to eliminate the need for the groin straps. It's a little box on the outside shoulder of the driver/passenger that breaks during an impact and gives just a little bit more to move (like a regular seatbelt does on impact) so that the person doesn't end up being peeled out of their floorpan after an impact.

Nick I understand what you're saying, but safety should be way ahead of looks at this point. Seats, harnesses, and cage/bars are not stuff to be taken lightly, d00d.

who said anything about looks? Currently next on the list is Nis tune. It needs a tune more then anything. I beat the piss out of the car. If the motor blows. It blows, I'll rebuild it.
