I recently got a speeding ticket over Christmas break. The cop says I was doing 85 in a 50, but im possitive it couldn't have been any more than 70. But anyway, in NY, that's an 8pt offense (31+.) Now, being as that it's my first speeding ticket, what are my chances of getting it bumped down a significant amount? Also, I've been told to adjourn the court date as long as possible. Is that a good idea?

Go to court and talk to the prosecutor and see what he can do for you. I am sure he can reduce it a little but still expect to leave there with some points. Aslo there is no need to keep ajurning the court date. Just go in and get it take care of. Whats the reason for wanting to adjourn it as long as possible?

i heard that sometimes officers are more prone to not show up the longer the date's postponed and that officers may be transfered out of their possitions too

Officers dont have to show up if you are not taking it to trial; that is why they have a prosecutor.
