This IS A FULL DAY and YOU WILL BE DOING ALOT OF DRIVING STARTING WITH YOUR TREK TO THE MEETING SPOT. I have done very similar runs with both the BMW and MINI clubs starting in the very same spot so what I am suggesting is nothing strange.

Please check a map and get an idea of where the town posted below
is and also review the car and driver requirements for this event BEFORE you sign up so that we do not have drop outs and no shows. This will NOT be open to NonTST members PERIOD. If the run is full there will be a back up list of 10 people and it will be posted.

Date: 05/06/06

Meet options: Both addresses for below have been emailed to participants.

1. Arrive at the Bucks County caravan meeting spot no later then 7:45 for 8:00AM SHARP leave.
2. Arrive at the drive starting location in Hamburg PA NO LATER THEN 10:00 for IMPORTANT drivers meeting.

Participant Limit:
20 yes 20! There will be two leaders.. and two groups of 10 participants.

Vehicle requirements:
GOOD BRAKES, TIRES, INSURANCE, AND DRIVER!! This is NO JOKE people.. The elevation changes are quite extreme in areas and you need to be able to stop on a dime if need be and also you MUST be able to turn while going downhill and braking.
ALSO... You MUST be able to K E E P U P W I T H T H E G R O U P !! These are two small groups on back roads and not many stops and lights so if you sign up.. plan on keeping up PERIOD..

Meeting Location:
Hamburg, PA about 80 miles from Philly. Once you are registered you will get the specific address.
This is a limited run so please do not share this info.
There will be a check list at the start and the run will not start with people who are not on the list.. FOR REAL.. Not being a tool just have experience with these events and a big group is NOT good for this run.

Event Start Time:
9:30 - 10:00AM at Hamburg PA location for a start at 10:30 SHARP <NO WAITING PERIOD>
Waivers will be required for this event. PLEASE arrive on time because this is one drivers meeting you do not want to miss.

Drive Time:
Actual seat time TBD

Bring: Plan on bringing CASH for your lunch and a Two Way Radio.

What I need from you for registration:
After you have considered where the drive takes place and the miles you will be putting on your car ~about 250 including travel to and from~ Plus the driving and vehicle requirements, please send me the following.

Send and email with the following info here>>> CLICK HERE TO REGISTER (savemyspace@yahoo.com)

craig, i lost your email (cleaned my inbox out) so ill just reply here. I won't be able to attend this run. :( the way the car looks it'll either be not in an acceptable condition for me to want to drive it or it'll be in the middle of an engine swap. So someone can have my spot.

For those of you who weren't on a run before, they are a blast! I had no problems on the curves, it's that damn open straight aways I lagged behind a bit. ;) Didn't have the benifit of boost.. then. :)

Why not just combine ours? I know alot of people that arent on this site that would like to come. And it seems like you know lot of people on the site.

My main concern is weeding out the bad drivers. The last thing we need is a accident to happen while 20 cars are following.

Mike,
Add me to your list.

I think the point of not combining the groups is to keep the numbers limited. Too many cars in a group causes all sort of problems. On the other hand it would be cool if you guys gave us some directions and maybe did the same thing an hour or two later.

Either way, I'd be up for a local run or a long distance haul in the second group.

Well I cant promise anything.. Barry and I did the best we could and if people listen on the radio and follow instructions about waiting for people after turns etc then that will help. Not only that but if everyone has a radio then that will help too.. Last time I am pretty sure my group did not miss any but when we took time to do one part again because it was fun we found construction so we had to go around it which was difficult.

Try running one and see how it goes.. its not that easy.

We always try to keep it at a minimum..

The prerun Saturday was a great success! All the roads for this run have now been mapped out and all but one have been ran. There was one road added in last minute which will be reviewed and approved this coming Saturday.

The roads seem to all be in overall good condition except for the few patches on one area of 125. Still yet it is nothing too terrible just some uneven patches in an isolated stretch. I have found a second road that is very similar to 125 in many ways with aggresive elevation changes and tight curves. Its a gold mine up there with all the mountains to cross.

My honest thoughts after the first prerun are:

1. Two way radios "should be" manditory for this run due to advance notifications of road surface changes or obsticale along the way. Motorola Talkabout plus or Talkabout 250 models are reasonalbly cheap used on ebay.

2. People should make sure their brake pads and tires are in good order before coming on this event. The change in elevations are sharp and in many cases have a curve at the bottom. Be prepared to use your brakes and have the rubber required to make good traction. Also, be reasonable with your downhill speeds.

My only challenge now is to find a place to stop and eat lunch where there is shade and somewhere to sit. I will be working this into the route.

All in all it looks to be a really great fun run for those that enjoy driving..

I just have one newb question...

How can you limit a run on public roads to 20 people? I've run this stretch of 125 with several of my fellow sportbike riders and this time of year...good luck not getting stuck behind a slower driver or passed by a pack of crazy bikers. It's a hot spot for enthusiasts, so why limit your group to 20 people?

And there is one part of this road that has a very sharp U turn (uphill left or downhill right depending on your direction) that has black sandy gravel strewn ALL OVER the turn. The locals do it and watch the people with nice cars and bikes wipe out. Also, the population is so sparse up that-a-way that the state police patrol heavily on these "popular" stretches of road for people doing exactly what you guys plan on doing. So radar detectors may be of great value to you during your excursion.

I'm sure I'll be up there myself...

Vypurr
04-06-2006, 10:12 PM
He can limit it to 20 because any more than 10 in a group and the line is way to long to keep up. We have done 3 runs now and with any more than 10, it becomes tiresome waiting for everyone to catch up and make turns.

Pocket_Rocket
04-06-2006, 11:58 PM
I have been around the 125 block MANY times and know the road and area well. As a matter of fact I put together a run out there once or twice a year and this is just the first time I have invited this group. So you could say, I am well aware of the challenges.. I will be out there every single weekend this month preparing for this and taking notes etc.

If anyone personally has any questions or concerns. Please feel free to PM me. I will not be offended and will answer your questions or concerns with pleasure.

GOOD TIME FOR A REMINDER:

PLEASE bring along your two way radio for this event as usual and noted in the first post. I recommend a Talkabout plus or a Talkabout 250 off of ebay if you do not have one.. They are the best quality used Motorola two way for the buck. PM with any questions.

Thanks!!

CHANGE OF PLANS as of yesterdays prerun!!!

We were going to do the usual pack your lunch gig but try after try has produced exactly ZERO places we could pull over and have lunch. The only choice was a resturant or an empty parking lot without a bathroom :help: etc. I decided a sit down meal was the better choice.

So with that said.. I have secured a sports bar type place to grab a quick burger etc. I DO NOT ENCOURAGE DRINKING ON THIS RUN... So please BRING CASH to make splitting bills easier etc.. I do not expect the average meal to be more then 12.00 including tip but that all depends on what you order... :finga: PM me with any questions.

...me three. How was the drive? What part of DE?

Ha! Imagine me... I have been taking my slow ass stock Ford ZX2 with 144,000 on the clock for the preruns.. Hitting these roads in that car are like having a salt peter milkshake.

I tell ya.. I may have no interest at all in doing 125 after 6 weekends in a row.
I am only two in at this point. Two more preruns then its TST on 125 then the next weekend its Evos on 125! :help:

It was by the concord mall...if you are on 202 and you pass it on your right, its about 4 stoplights up on the left....a Long windy backroad by winterthur museam(never really know how to spell that word) with covered bridges and amazing elevation drops and twisties...good time. I think one of the roads was 82? Im not sure...but the kid who led us was a nasty driver. Stock 06 subaru TR and I could barely keep with him.

I wish i took some pics on my camera phone but it was too intense...

PocketRocket! Dont get sick of it! it was way too much fun today and I onyl got about 20 minutes of seat time(but we did a couple laps)...

What do you do on the pre runs that you need so many? I mean id say id want you to stop but the more experienced you are the better for us...

He needs to know every turn by heart or the entire group gets lost. And making u-turns or getting lost is very painful with a line of 9 cars behind you.

:iagree:
It really does take work to do one of these "the right way.." Once you attend you will understand the detail put into it.. hopefully :)
At the end of the day if everyone has some fun without incident I am a happy camper..

The first two were researching roads and the last two coming up are putting mileage to the roads for the two leaders to go by and to be sure to notate any land marks for turns etc. My friend Jack is leading a group in his S/C BMW Z3 and I am leading a group in the fancy Lancer..

On the first two runs I have had my laptop and Delorme Street Atlas up and looking for roads to link to get where we want to go.. You would not believe how many roads up there just stop and turn to dirt!! There are a couple of laps back and forth on 125 but we did include back roads there and back instead of taking main roads as best we could. This one was a challenge but will be worth it to show you guys some of these great roads.. I am just really sorry it takes a while to get there and back and hope you guys enjoy even if we never do it again..

oil change
bleed brakes
flush/change coolant
Check every bolt ive ever touched

couple of fresh cruisin CDs

Great list..

Only one thing missing.. Fresh batteries for your two way radio??

Everyone have a two way radio??

If ever there was a run where you need one of these, this is it.

Trust me the sound of someone announcing a newly developed wheel swallowing pothole or notification of cop up ahead or heavy braking etc is much better sounding then a good CD on one of these runs

Nice list as well sir! I think im gonna order some superblue tomorrow. Im still not sure if new pads are in order yet though. I think ill be alright on the stock brembo pads for a bit longer (only have 20,000miles....and not a lot of that was hard braking so...). I was also looking into a rear sway and endlinks, but we'll see. Im pretty confident in the suspension as is.

P.S. I MAY be accessported by then as well, but we'll see.

No, no special tuning just for the day. Normally the ECU would adjust for elevation changes but I removed it so that I could datalog wideband signals. I've never changed the settings for higher elevetions yet. I thought the run would be at a higher elevation.

In the instructions it says to change the elevation settings to the highest elevation that you are going to be driving. But it says the changes are very minor in the fuel curve.

Actually the mountain to get to Shamokin is where its higher but do not know where to tell you to check to get that elevation. Hmmm

By the way... I do not mean to put people off with the braking comments.
There is no reason to feel that you have to go as fast or brake as hard as everyone else. I will not leave anyone behind nor will Jack the leader of group two. For those that may want to hit it hard.. you are the ones I am talking to.

mod the directions to the red robin meetup....its not showing up on mapquest...

NOICE.. OK here goes. MAPQUEST, YAHOO, AND GOOGLE DID NOT WORK CORRECTLY FROM MY ADDRESS!

Will email everyone..

I have searched all over for a program that can find it with no luck.

It is a new shopping center.

I am not quite sure what else to do but this.
Map and follow the directions to the address below on Rockhill Drive.
From that point IGNORE the directions to #600
You will need to find the Horizon shopping center and enter.
Rockhill Drive is about a mile from end to end so you cant get lost if you stay on it. Do not enter the Mall and Do not enter the Target Shopping Center
If you see these entrances turn around and go the opposite way on Rockhill and Horizon Blvd will be down on your left.

Red Robin is straight down Horizon Blvd on the left.

600 ROCKHILL DRIVE

There is one on street road right at the intersection of Street Rd and Bustleton Pike! There is also Suburban Diner! Its 2 minutes from RR, but for a lot of you, you would need to go past RR to get there.

Thats the one i was thinking of but i thought that one wasn't there anymore. And also ihop food isn't consistent aka sometimes i wanna die after i eat it and i don't think craig would like stopping for me to poop every 2 miles. How is that for a visual.

Waitlisters, here's your chance...
Unfortunately, I have to drop out. I just had a round of job interviews today, and I have to get a lot done this weekend. This along with feeling completely drained, I don't want to be so out of it during the run that anyone has a problem. :(

So, I certainly hope one of you who was interested in attending takes my spot, it looks like it's going to be a great time. :furious:

Had a ****in awesome time out there today! Great job Craig! The run was well organized and the company was even better. I think one of the best things about the run today was the great group of people that was out there.

I had a couple of  moments. Definetly the most important part of this run was a good set of brakes.

And I almost died twice!!!

Next on list to purchase - New Rotors, mine are warped to all hell now.

Definitely an incredible run, can't even say how glad I was to be able to drive those roads. Pretty sure everyone had some really close calls, I was kinda shaking when we parked after the time where everyone got a little sloppy around that corner. Time for new brakes and tires...

Thanks Craig for organizing it and Jerry and Allie for signaling for me, that helped out big time. The little headache was worth following you, haha.

lol.....mine seem to work now that the temp has gone down about 500000000 degrees. haha. i am doing rotors/pads/stainless lines/fluid VERY soon so the next time out i wont have a certain STI almost run into me....my brakes held up VERY well for being 100% stock and over 30k miles on them. only gave out a little one time, they still worked, but got a little squishy.....

LoL, I warned you. Hey atleast I offered some Advil.:wiggle:

My brakes where ok, but I think my diff might be gone. Around +120,000 miles on a stock clutch type LSD. I couldn't even do a decent doughnut. Oh well, time for a rebuild or maybe fork over the money for a Kaaz/ATS/Cusco unit.

Another BIG THANKS to everyone that came out. I appreciate you driving as far as we did just to get started but to find these kinds of roads you have to travel a bit.

At the end of the day.. The time invested was worth it and I am happy everyone had a good time without incident.

Finally, I want to say thank you to my friend Jack for leading group 2
and Becca and Michelle for being navigators..:rally: Its not easy reading directions etc when being thrown around.. I did my best to make Becca sick after lunch but alas, she has grown used to my driving.. or the dramamine worked wonders.

For those interested in the Fall run.. There will be "areas" of enhanced speed but it will be nothing compared to this. It will be incredible scenery with stops at a mountain top for light trail walk to the summit and then some time at Bushkill falls. That run will be announced in August.

Hey everyone, this is my first post. A friend of mine saw a bunch of cars going up over route 125. He said he saw subarus and thought i was one of the cars. It was bugging me because i had no clue who it was. I posted on clubwrx asking if it was anyone on there, but had no luck. I love those mountain roads, i live like ten minutes from them.
