Track user invites/referrals

Is it possible to keep track of the number of users that each member invites to the forums, and display it beneath their posts or location?

This could be added as another question on the registration, "Who were you invited to TriStateTuners.com by?"

i think its a great idea, but how do we implement it? if anyone knows then please let me know, but if there's no feasable and at least half-automated way to do it then i just dont think it will happen.
